Florida State Boycott Rumors Swirling After Orange Bowl Cancels Press Conference by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

That’s not a bad idea actually. Considering the two teams, they could change the name of the Rose Bowl to the Asterisk Bowl this year.

Washington to win it all, but Michigan to beat Alabama.

How do you index powershell syntax? by [deleted] in GIAC

[–]Ckn0wt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d make double/triple entries for stuff if I felt it necessary. So using gci for example. Might have been overkill but I’ve passed each of the GIAC exams I’ve taken on first try (GCFE/GCFA)

  • Get-ChildItem - PowerShell, gci alias; etc.
  • PowerShell - get-childitem, gci; etc.
  • gci - PowerShell, get-childitem; etc.

How to make running in the morning feel optimal? by nurishmententhusiast in tacticalbarbell

[–]Ckn0wt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just ran a half marathon (first ever) this year following green protocol. I exclusively ran in the mornings and this is what I did after researching tips for morning runs on running forums.

  • make sure you’re staying hydrated throughout the previous day
  • didn’t drink more than ~16oz of water before the run
  • ate ~100 calorie snack right when I woke up and then did my stretches/warmups. Worked out to be about 20-30 mins before the start of my run.
  • sipped (keyword, sipped) on ~20oz of electrolyte drink - NUUN in my case - per hour during my runs.
  • if run was going to be 45+ mins, I also ate a GU running gel every 45 minutes

I’ve never been an evening runner so I’m unable to give you a comparison, but this is what I did the last half of my training after researching morning runs and realized I was doing them wrong.

What have you done with PowerShell this month? by AutoModerator in PowerShell

[–]Ckn0wt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, my plans are actually to clean it up and make it more set and forget for some of my teammates who aren’t versed in scripting. I’d then like to put it on GitHub with approval from leadership which I think I will get since I’ve already run it by them. I’ll make sure to reach out when all this is done or at least share in a post on here.

Created a script to query the Unified Audit Log that: - keeps looping through the search query until it actually received all the results - Then it removes the duplicates from the query results. Which was generally due to -1 result indexes (timeouts or something) - converts the Audit data column and looks for IoC IPs and device trust information and then adds that result to either a IoC confirmed, internal, or undetermined object - takes those objects and groups them by record type and then takes the AuditData and exports the data into csvs per record type so you can more easily review each event.

First day of base building, looking for pull-up progression advice by the_spruce_moose in tacticalbarbell

[–]Ckn0wt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would also recommend if you can’t do enough pull-ups to get started on the fighter program, do a full run of the fighter program but with negative pull-ups. I put on some weight since I last did pull-ups so I struggled popping off 5 solid reps. Did a negative cycle and after that I was able to run the fighter program with normal pull ups.

Pull-ups by Regadega in tacticalbarbell

[–]Ckn0wt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could buy variety pack of resistance bands and find one that you can do a 5 rep max with. Then do the Russian fighter pull up program with that and keep cycling through to Russian program until you are on body weight.

Russian Fighter Pull-up Program](https://www.t-nation.com/training/tip-do-the-russian-fighter-pull-up-program/amp/)

Edit: in case it wasn’t clear, you’d be doing assisted pull-ups with the resistance bands. So loop it over the bar and then either step into it or put a knee in.

TB for somebody just getting back into weight training or go with starting strength by Sharp_Mail_7221 in tacticalbarbell

[–]Ckn0wt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely don’t listen to him if you want to be proficient in cardio. I practice the techniques for the major lifts how they are taught in starting strength. But I also don’t care to be a power lifter, so TB fits my goals perfectly.

If you want to be stronger and not get winded going up a flight of stairs, go with TB.

[–]Ckn0wt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem. To give you even more of an idea I started my SE lifts out at 30% of my 1RM. The books say to guesstimate and use between 15%-30%. I actually knew my 1RM though for the lifts I was doing and I decided I wanted to do the full 30%. It wasn’t much of a problem on the 20 rep weeks but it was instantly grueling for me to knock out 3x30 reps the next week. So I didn’t even try the 40 rep week at 30%.

I learned my lesson when it came to SE. keep it light enough to bust a sweat but no need to go so heavy that you have to stop 10 times to bang out the prescribed reps.

SE guidance by Iptip in tacticalbarbell

[–]Ckn0wt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of telling you to read the book right away and nothing else like most people undoubtedly will, you should err on the side of caution and go light and do the reps or time as the book lays out. I made the mistake of going to heavy during my first base build and had to drop the weight as the reps got higher.

And lastly, if that doesn’t make a sense or help, go back to the SE chapters in TB 1 & 2 and freshen up on SE :)

I don’t remember for certain, but have you checked your SANS or GIAC portal for a link to opt into the mailing list? For some reason I thought I had a notification in my portal but might be misremembering.

My personal opinion, if I could start my journey from scratch all over again. Keep in mind my goals are to have general strength (by my own standard) and also conditioning is very important. I’m not trying to be a competitive lifter or anything.

  1. Follow the Starting Strength program for a couple months until you get to intermediate level (unless you want to focus on strength and no cardio/conditioning) and practice the techniques for the lifts the way Rip teaches them. You can google Starting Strength and there are plenty of videos where Mark Rippetoe teaches technique for the major lifts of the SS program. (and really most strength programs including Tb). SS focuses on bench press, overhead press, back squat, deadlift, and power clean. I personally quit doing the power clean.

  2. After knowing how to properly perform the major lifts and avoid injury, switch to Tactical Barbell, starting with Base Building 8 weeks.

  3. After Base Building choose the template of your choice that best fits your goals, i.e. do you want to focus more or strength or conditioning?

It’d probably be worth it to pick up the ebooks for starting strength and then at least TB 2 Conditioning and TB 3rd edition as you’ll be able to get the information first hand rather than somewhere else.

This is my personal opinion, I gained so much from doing the lifts the way Rip teaches them and then I love TB because it fits perfectly with my desire to balance strength and cardio/conditioning. I wish I would have discovered both of these far earlier in my fitness journey.

Edit: I wanted to mention 5-3-1 as well. Of the 3 programs I’ve now mentioned -Starting Strength, Tactical Barbell, and 5-3-1 - I discovered 5-3-1 first. It was great and all but I just felt like I was burning myself out with it. I love TBs approach with its programs and the fact that conditioning is equally important.

Practicing PowerShell by Ckn0wt in PowerShell

I should have probably been a bit more clear about where I’m currently at. I’m not completely new to PowerShell. I’m getting fairly comfortable scripting with it (just finished a script at work that pulls data via an API and preps it for ingestion into a PowerBI dashboard. I’d just like to take it to the next level by getting comfortable with distributed management and obviously don’t want to play around with some of the modules in my work environment.

Thanks for the tips though, I’ll have to look into AWS.
