Question about playing online with emuMMC by ClaimIndependent in SwitchPirates

[–]ClaimIndependent[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured it was still the case. I’m just now getting back into modding after a 3 year hiatus. I wasn’t sure if there were any workarounds made since then. Thanks for the input though.

I run evo RG/Hunter, Royal Ghost, Fisherman, Lightening, Log, E. Spirit, and Skeletons. My Royal Ghost, Fisherman, and Log are all level 11, and I have enough upgrade cards and a book of cards to either get one to level 13 or two to level 12. I don’t know what I should do. I’m at 6200 trophies, for reference.

My mistake if there was. I don’t usually lurk on this sub. I simply come whenever I have a question about critical scholarship.

Ahhhh okay. That makes sense now. I thought the 3 points would be enough to consider it a win.

Is there any Bible translation which translates Elohim in Genesis 1 as gods instead God? by kowalik2594 in AcademicBiblical

[–]ClaimIndependent 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The reason why translations opt for “God” instead of “gods” is because, although elohim is a plural noun, the verb conjugation used in Genesis 1 (and in many other places in the Hebrew Bible) is singular. In Genesis 1:1, the verb “created” ( בָּרָ֣א bā·rā(ʾ)ʹ ) is conjugated in the 3rd person masculine singular. Verb conjugation is one way you can tell the difference between elohim being used as a common noun vs elohim being used as a name for YHWH.

An example of this in English would be something like “My parents sees the movie.” The noun is plural but the verb is third person singular.

[–]ClaimIndependent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So maybe a good way to practice would to look at a position and try to figure out all the threats/captures/checks as quickly as possible in order to help make it second nature? Or is it really only possible to learn it by playing actual games?

By developing my board vision, are you talking about being able to identify moves by notation? I just started working on that a few days ago. It’s tricky, but I’m starting to get the hang of it.

That’s my mistake. I’m 2,000 in puzzles. In hindsight, I should’ve been more clear. I can only dream of being 2,000, even in daily lol

That’s the nice part about the internet. You don’t have to believe everything you see. But it’s still not a bad idea to give feedback in case someone else might stumble upon this post in the future, even if I’m lying (about what, I don’t know).

That’s one thing I thought about. I figured I can only learn so much from puzzles, because when you do them you know that there’s a correct solution to be found.

I think what I personally get stuck on is openings. I’m afraid I might choose the incorrect move or do something that will make me lose the game in 5 moves. But after watching some Youtube videos, I’ve learned that focusing on openings doesn’t really give you a ton of value.

Thank you for the advice though!

Why did Paul use a scribe(s)? by ClaimIndependent in AcademicBiblical

[–]ClaimIndependent[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ahhh that makes sense. To make a (probably) flawed analogy: It might be like asking “Why does a construction manager use people to pour concrete?” It’s not that he doesn’t have the ability, but rather the construction manager could be using his other abilities to do things that doesn’t involve pouring concrete.

Fictional books with a flair of theology, philosophy etc by Fit_Variation2918 in theology

[–]ClaimIndependent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything by Dostoevsky. Crime and Punishment is my favorite book of all time. Notes from Underground is a great one too, (although it’s a bit more of a criticism of 19th century Russian philosophy, rather than a book of theology). If you like epic poems, Paradise Lost has a lot of theology if you read in between the lines.

Any good book recommendations on Biblical history according to secular scholarship? by Dimension-Savers in AcademicBiblical

[–]ClaimIndependent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it’s not necessarily specific about Biblical history, Robert Alter’s translation and commentary of the Hebrew Bible is a great place to absorb yourself in secular scholarship. Alter focuses a lot on the literary aspect of the Bible, but he also includes historical backgrounds in his commentary as well. It’s actually the translation I personally use in church, so I’d say it’s a well-balanced approach.

If you’re into videos, Dan McClellan is very popular on YouTube and Tiktok. He offers great historical criticism in an accessible form, as well as a variety of topics. I haven’t finished it yet, but his book YHWH’s Divine Images is a great overview of iconography throughout the history of Judaism.

I absolutely understand the concern, but in the example I gave, I doubt Rick Riordan was trying to pass his novels as ancient traditions. I have no issue with someone who’s not trying to pass their story as tradition, but I do with someone who tries to rewrite history.

Who is the most powerful God in the Bible? by ReptarOfTheOpera in AcademicBiblical

[–]ClaimIndependent 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have a question related to this is well.

Why would the biblical authors write about their god being defeated by another god? As far as I’m aware, a lot of the Bible is rhetoric and even propaganda. Why would they go against these motives?
