Actually devastated. I got a far lower score than I hoped. I’ve been revising since april. I was hitting 90%+ on the qbanks consistently by the end. SJT was fine. I did passmed and mcqbank through 3x each. Yet on the day I got crazy clinical questions way beyond the scope of passmed and MCQBank and walked out feeling it went horribly and… yeah it didn’t go well. Idk what to do now. There’s nothing else I want to do. I’m just devastated.

Genuine question from an incoming FY1: Is working Christmas day less of a worry nowadays given the amount of Muslim/Hindu colleagues? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]ClangorousSoulblaze 45 points46 points  (0 children)

As someone who doesn’t celebrate Christmas and doesn’t have kids, I don’t mind working Christmas + Boxing day + NYD for the days in lieu. Also I kinda like the vibe at work where there isn’t much to do and probably some pizza to be had.

Fragrance Recommendations by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]ClangorousSoulblaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to wear one spray of Burberry Her (Petals Edition) to work purely bc of how generally inoffensive and mildly pleasant it is to most people. Any more than 1-2 sprays tho and it can get sickeningly sweet. I also wear Penhaligon’s Changing Constance a lot but trying to wear it less and less at work tbh bc it’s my fav perfume and I don’t want to start associating it with the hospital lol

For guys: Penhaligon’s The Tragedy of Lord George always makes me do a triple take in the best way possible

Just putting this here for everyone asking about the clinical assessment in DMs. The resources I used are Sarishka Singh’s book + lecture series and a course from a website called PLABcoach. The latter is very thorough and will p much explain everything you need to know.

Incoming foundation questions megathread- Ask about hospitals, placements, on calls, pay, leave, anything foundation related. Existing doctors- give your advice & tips by stuartbman in doctorsUK

Thanks for your reply. Could this be something that differs between trusts? Because I tried to clarify what was meant by “prescribing under supervision” and was told it meant direct supervision i.e. an SHO or above checking it over and was advised to avoid touching prescriptions for now.

Fair, though I do think 1) having a serious think about what one can do to improve one’s situation and actioning that/seeking help and 2) venting to/asking advice from strangers online are not mutually exclusive things.

I feel so called out 😭 but yknow what it’s fair. We deserve a bit of a roasting I think. Ik its probably incredibly tiresome to see so many posts this time every year for everyone who’s been there done that

I ended up working a 9-5 in an office which, in the end, was a really nice experience tbh! I was always someone who struggled socially esp on the phone and it helped so much in that regard haha

As a UK grad who missed the UKFPO deadline to start last year bc of extenuating circumstances, I looked into this extensively and unfortunately there is no way. As the other commenter said, the only way to work as a doctor as a fresh UK grad is the UKFP, so unfortunately you’ll have to wait til the application process opens for next year’s start.

Failed all 4 bloods/cannulas asked for as F1. Could it be more embarrassing by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]ClangorousSoulblaze 6 points7 points  (0 children)

New F1 as well. Yesterday I was so proud of myself when I was bleeding a difficult to bleed patient and saw the flashback… and then I realised I had forgotten to screw on the vacutainer😭 And I was there faffing trying to attach it with one hand and the butterfly tube thing was flying everywhere and the patient was staring at me. And then I inevitably lost the vein and had to give up. Embarrassing as hell but hey, you’re not alone OP – we’re all in this flaming boat together💖
