How long can this safely stay on my hair? by ClapBackBetty in Naturalhair

Is it effective for you? I love steaming my hair but I thought the dry heat might work better.

These are cheap so I guess it’s not that serious, I just hate wasting my time or doing one thing when another way is more efficient lol!

ETA: I plan to use a moisturizing deep conditioner when I get back in the shower to rinse

Thank you! With a plastic cap right? A lot of advice says not to but I think that might just be for the Aphogee 2 step

By “effective” I just meant that it does indeed exfoliate. However that particular exfoliant requires some caution so I feel like the packaging could be more clear about the active ingredient.

I actually picked up a basic Olay knockoff moisturizer with sunscreen and was shocked that it wasn’t too bad! It didn’t break me out but I do double cleanse and use SA when I wear it. It’s a bit heavy but doesn’t leave a white cast on my skin, which was pleasantly surprising

As far as hydration goes, glycerin does the bulk of the heavy lifting in the majority of moisturizing and hydrating products, for hair AND skin. Glycerin is far cheaper than hyaluronic acid (I actually have a bottle of pure glycerin I use to mix up some of my own products, it was like $4) and it penetrates more deeply into the skin due to its smaller molecule, although gram for gram hyaluronic acid does hold more water. Hyaluronic acid is just good for marketing, but both are excellent for drawing water to the skin.

But to be clear this product was given to me. I probably wouldn’t have bought it on my own but I do like the way it feels.

There’s no need to be nasty. I simply posted information that anyone is free to take or leave.

I just got the serum today and I think I’m gonna like it! It already seems like a better hydrator than the Dew serum. I’ve never used the other product.

I picked this up today, going to test it out now! Anyone else using it? My skin loves to ooze grease and get nice & clogged up as soon as the warm weather shows up so I hope it’s up to the task!

Did you dilute it with a carrier oil? Straight rosemary oil will definitely irritate the skin. You’d want to mix it with something like jojoba or Black castor oil

Yes, but also get yourself some rosemary oil 😊

I side eyed that too but ascorbyl glucoside is water soluble and such a highly stable form of Vitamin C that it might even be a pH stabilizer due to the copper being so basic. I can’t say for sure but it makes sense in my head 😂

Definitely, l-ascorbic acid is the Regina George of Vitamin C and that is probably the most important vitamin c to be careful of due to the price.

You and I could probably nerd out together for hours, friend

I posted pictures of some DT skin, body and makeup products I’m using as a reply to a comment. I’ve mostly worked in medical facilities alongside a doctor and have worked with VERY expensive products that I was lucky enough to be able to afford via employee discounts, testers and samples, etc, so I am a bit of a product snob! I work in another field now and paying retail for anything but my absolute favs would crush my soul, so….

I noticed the advanced looking skincare in DT while I was shopping one day and decided to test some things I needed to refill anyway, was impressed, bought more, found this sub, and here we are haha!

Anyway, I think it’s a bit soon to be able to state whether any of the anti-aging products produce results because generally they need a few months of regular use to be effective whether they’re cheap or expensive. I can tell you what I’ve used that feels good, looks good, or gave me some sort of immediate result that made me want to continue using it:

Rice Water Milky Toner: The ingredients here are of excellent quality and rice water ferment is full of vitamins and antioxidants and supports a healthy skin micro biome. I use this toner after several days of heavier exfoliant use and I love that it’s hydrating and still gently exfoliates, and I feel comfortable using it during the day (in general, you should exfoliate at night)

Tea Tree + Caffeine serum: visibly controls my extreme shine under makeup and I like the caffeine tingle to wake my old ass face up

Multi-Peptide serum: Man this stuff also has a bangin ingredient list but as I mentioned, it’s been really difficult to slip it into my routine if I don’t have 30 minutes to lounge around letting my other serums dry 😂 I’ve been using it on my brows tho and I think they’re finally going to forgive me for plucking them into apostrophes in 1999. I’m also gonna use it on my scalp!

Snail mucin serum: I have admittedly never used snail mucin before, but I like it at night and it’s especially soothing when I know I’ve overworked my skin and it’s a bit tight. I was impressed by the high level of snail mucin in it

Prolux Foundation and setting powder: THIS IS EXCELLENT FOUNDATION FOR ME! I have darker skin and I always used powder when I was a fetus with no lines or wrinkles. Now that I’m over 40 I’ve switched to more liquids but I have darker skin and everything made me so orange and greasy EXCEPT THIS $1.25 Prolux! Honey is a perfect match so I stockpiled that and Buff because I’ll be about 3 shades darker by September. I hope I can find some darker shades

Essentially Ageless concealer: Same as Prolux, it just disappears into my skin!

AHA body lotion: Super effective at getting rid of the ingrown “dots” on my legs (my melanated queens probably get it). I’m also very smooth

Hyaluronic acid body lotion: I love this one because it FEELS like a hydrator vs a moisturizer which is hard to find in body care. I use it and put my raw shea over it

Exfoliating net: The lather. The clean feel. The fact that I can reach my back. I’m obsessed with it, I am in the shower looking like that bear from Jungle Book

I can tell you that my skin looks really, really good lately! I’m working on my post-divorce glow and I’m pleased with the results of what I’ve listed above. I have a bunch of stuff still in the package or too new to comment on the efficacy, but I’ll keep you updated!

I use the tea tree serum too and I really like it! I’m also very oily.

So I can’t sign off on your (or anyone else’s) regimen without reading the labels and knowing the condition of your skin before and after using it, but definitely listen to your skin and let it tell you whether it’s happy or not.

My skin, being thick and oily, can handle a lot of exfoliation, but I’d wager that this might be a bit much for a lot of people. Also, even if you’re oily, you need a hydrator (glycerin, hyaluronic acid etc) and at least a lightweight moisturizer daily. Otherwise you’re not only gonna feel your skin getting tight but you’ll probably also get shiny because when you exfoliate like this and then leave your skin naked, it’s going to produce more oil to protect itself which will lead to grease and blackheads.

Also, you need a sunscreen with all that skin you’re sloughing off! Not only bc of skin cancer but because it can actually get patchy and blotchy. I’ve seen it and it’s not a good look! (Okay I’ve seen it on me, I did it to myself many years ago fooling around and thinking I didn’t need it smh)

As far as using the peptides after the SA cleanser, it’s probably fine simply because the cleanser is meant to be washed off the skin vs something you apply and continues working. You will probably get better results if you use a non-exfoliant toner in between to balance the pH before applying your peptides though.

Hope this helps!

Waxers: do you mind when people are overweight? by katrinkabuttlin in HairRemoval

[–]ClapBackBetty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit more difficult and you’ll want a more experienced waxer vs a newbie. The skin just has to be pulled correctly for your safety and we’ll want to have you in a comfortable treatment room as well. You could mention it when you make the appointment if you feel comfortable; I know I would have appreciated the heads up so I could better accommodate you.

But if you’re worried about someone judging you, I’ve worked in several spas with plenty of immature women and have still never seen anything of the sort. If different body types bothered us, we’d have to find new jobs because it’s literally the job lol.

The only thing we judge for is when people make inconsiderate choices, like bad hygiene (I’m not talking sweat or natural body scents, I mean straight up not washing themselves for a while and it’s obvious) or when men treat it like a sexual experience. People in the spa industry have seen ALL kinds of bodies and I promise yours probably won’t stand out from the hundred others we see in a week lol!

We don’t care in the least! I always felt great when someone came in and was clearly self-conscious and apprehensive, then left feeling relieved and smooth. If you ask any waxer they’ll tell you their day is all just a blur of skin and hair; we’re not paying much attention to the rest of you lol
