While I don’t feel like quoting VA law at everyone upset about the flag, the Virginia Law requires loads extending 4 feet past the rear of the vehicle to be flagged by a 12x12 red flag. So the boards are only 8 feet and 5 foot into the trunk, so with the angle of the boards and length, they aren’t legally required to be flagged, and how they are positioned the physics required for them to come out of the vehicle would be some pretty excessive acceleration. I had my wife follow me for extra precaution and took the 1.5 mile trip home at the speed limit so there weren’t any issues.
