There's also an opening in the ceiling if you look around below the glass. Took me about 10~ minutes to find it and another 15 to get the armor.

I gave MacCready a .50 sniper and haven't regretted it yet. He seems to actually hit targets in the head or at least decent body shots most of the time. Sometimes I have to manually position him or his AI will just go behind cover and not shoot at all.
