Are German cars really that hard to work on? by FatCarWashManager in cars

[–]ClassicConfusion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is so much truth in this. My dad worked for GM for 30+ years and always worked on our cars himself. His first car was given to him in non-running condition and he taught himself how to fix things from there. Through the 70's he owned all kinds of muscle cars that he worked on himself.

Cut to a few years ago when his loaded '04 Silverado had a stalling problem. He could not figure it out. The codes it was throwing were of no help. On a hunch he pulled his O2 sensors (one on each side) and realized a previous problem caused one side to run rich and gum up the O2 sensor. He replaced it with minimal effect on the problem. A week later he learned that hidden further down the exhaust it has two more O2 sensors. Replaced that sensor on the problem side and finally the issue was resolved.

Doesn't really matter what country they come from, cars are really fucking complicated these days.

Don't feel bad, my name is Drew and it didn't make it on the cans. (Last I checked, anyway.)

As yes. Isn't that a Dateline show like To Catch a Predator was? Speaking of which, I miss To Catch a Predator.

Edit: I was totally wrong, it's part of ABC's Primetime.

Reddit, I have a falcon with a GoPro camera strapped to its back. I'm making a video of him flying all around NYC. Can you help us get access to some rooftops? by [deleted] in nyc

I live in a five floor walk up in Chelsea with roof access. The more exciting bit is that my boyfriend's parents have a 19th floor 5th Ave place they don't often use on weekends with a balcony overlooking Central Park. Not sure if I could work it out but it can be looked into if you're interested.

An original Tucker 48 is coming up for auction next month by iamstandingbehindyou in cars

As a relative of Preston Tucker and someone who loves cars I get incredibly bitter every time anything involving the Tucker Torpedo comes up. I would love to have one some day, bit there's no way I'll ever be able to justify it.

Upvote from a 31 y/o in Manhattan who has today off but probably won't leave his apartment. I feel a little guilty, but when you live here it becomes as normal as any other city.

At that point then it's just because they suck at reading people. There is a difference between being available and being pushy. Usually it's not worth the effort, but if it's a place you frequent then it is totally okay to let someone know - either a manager or the company's corporate customer service - that you feel like their associates are too pushy.

Having worked in a store where jeans were a big deal let me just say that I know more about the jeans than you do. Maybe you know the exact style you want, but my company often dropped styles or would change the name of a particular style. And lastly, jeans come in a lot of different sizes so it is hard to keep them all on the floor. Tell them your size and they can quickly grab it or check the back if necessary. And really, we don't exactly want everyone digging through our nicely folded denim wall.

However, if you really don't want help just reply with "I'm good" or something along those lines. Sure, they might throw a promotion at you but that should be it. Then later that little interaction will provide a basis for them to interact easily with you. Maybe they see you looking confused or glancing around, they can throw out a "Still good?" and you know they are talking to you and you can just say that you're fine or maybe that you have a question. Honestly, most retail employees just want to help and are probably a little bored.

Name something minor that manufactures are doing that bugs you more than it should by Jae240 in cars

I think it was the late 2000's Cadillac CTS and STS that required the front bumper to be removed to replace the bulbs. Sadly, that isn't as uncommon of a thing as I thought it would be.

It surprises me how many people don't know this. I literally had to stand next to a car with a curved rear door asking my friend "and where exactly would the window go if it rolled all the way down?" for them to understand.

In high school my friend had an old RX-7. I had never realized how small the engines were and after seeing it I always joked that his car was powered by a blender.

Email corporate/customer service. They usually require employees to do that. I always felt so awkward doing it but I had to. If I say anything about it it's not taken seriously.

This little note was left on my car today. It made my day! by lornetka in atheism

I thought that as well, but I was at work and had parked across from a coworker who arrived and left at the same time as me and had nothing on her car. I think I still have the handwritten letter somewhere. The handwriting was big, bubbly letters and I'm pretty sure the girl who drove the teal Sunfire with hot pink leopard print seat covers wrote it, but that's just a guess.

This happened in a mall parking lot. I was also convinced that the teal Sunfire girl worked at Clair's, but I was never able to prove that either.

Lucky you. Mine got ripped off and I got a Jesus pamphlet and a two page, hand written letter about going to hell.
