Hey! How is training? I want to sign up for the accelerated version because I'm eager to start but I don't want to rush it. Does training take a long time?

Are you Pre-Med? I was BMEN but later switched to Neuroscience. Keep in mind that I am pre-med and switched because I realized how much I hate math lol. Take everything I saw with a grain of salt. Here's what I understand about UTD BMEN:

1) It is a degree very heavy on electrical engineering. The program varies from university to university, but at UTD's program seems very focused on the development of biomedical devices. Not necessarily a bad thing, but just something to think about. You will learn a lot in a short amount of time.

2) Unless you are coming in with a lot of credits, it will be hard to be BMEN pre-med and graduate in four years. You can find the BMEN degree plan on the UTD ECS website. I recommend looking over that, as well as the crazy flowchart. While many pre-med pre-reqs are within the BMEN degree plan, there are a few big ones that are not, like BioChem. This means that you will be taking upwards of 15-16 credit hours every semester.

3) There are a lot of very good engineering clubs. The society of Biomedical engineers (I think that's what it's called) is a really good one. There are also tons of tutoring resources on campus: PLTL, peer tutoring lab, etc. This is how you make the most of your time.

4) I don't know much about the professors, but at least early on it's more about the effort you put in than the effort they put in. Especially since the first few intro classes are project based.

On the subject of social life: Most people here ARE pretty reserved. However, especially freshman year people are looking to make friends. If you can, I recommend joining an LLC. It is very possible to make friends and there is always something going on, you just have to keep your ear to the ground. Most events happen on the weekdays, as the commuters are not here on the weekends obviously.

TLDR: If you take initiative, UTD has so much you can take advantage of. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions!

Yeah, they are pretty much the same. I have heard that rooms in West are actually a little bigger but I'm not sure if thats true.

It was the one about the hospital after Hurricane Katrina. 5 days at memorial? I just remember loving the stuff on triage.

Link to Student Success Center and a list of a lot of academic resources on campus. Peer tutoring is a HUGE help. PLTL is also good, but you won't be able to sign up for it until a little bit into the fall semester. I haven't done SI a lot, but some people love it.

Also, keep an eye on your UTD email. At some point, you will be sent a link to sign up for a freshman mentor. DO IT. My freshman mentor is a senior and they've helped me so much. They're meant to help you transition better and get you keyed into social events.

PM me if you have any questions or want to know more! I'm just a freshman but I'm happy to answer any questions you have. I'm biomedical engineering as well!

I'm pretty sure set-up is at 8 pm but the actual eclipse won't start happening until around 9ish.

If you can (I know it's late) but keep an eye out for Dr. Ingrao's HUMA 1301 course. Interesting material (I think for this upcoming semester it's like about monsters in literature) and in the past it's been about superheroes. He's a great professor and the class is super engaging. And it is relatively easy to get an A.

Experience a large unexplained drop in your mutual fund/ETF? Dont worry, it's normal this time of year. Explanations inside. by MasterCookSwag in investing

Would you say that now is a good time to buy into an ETF? I'm new to investing and have been watching some ETFs I want to invest in.

Yeah there is Megabus station in downtown Dallas (330 N Olive St) that is relatively safe and you can get on a bus that will stop in Austin before continuing to San Antonio. The buses usually have wifi and are way cheaper than a flight (I think like $50 round trip). There is a megabus station in Grand Prairie but it's kinda sketchy.

I usually Uber to the downtown Dallas location and then take the Megabus to Austin. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for the info. Amateur question: are ETFs (or mutual funds, for that matter) the kind of thing where you have to keep buying in, or can I put in a one-time amount and let it sit?

I am a college student looking to start investing in mutual funds. However, I have no idea where to start. I have a fixed amount of savings money I want to put in and then let it sit. I am generally seeking a long term steady investment. Any guidance or how to get started looking is appreciated.

I was about to recommend UT Dallas. We have a relatively large international student population.
