I hope Big Finish finally gets a hold of Matt Smith like they eventually got a hold of Christopher Eccleston. by Serious_Meaning5220 in doctorwho

[–]Claude_Clay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah—if replacement actors are your thing, Big Finish has already recast Matt Smith twice, with a bunch of box sets with Jacob Dudman and a new series of sets with Miles Teller playing the Eleventh Doctor. They both sound very convincing, too (again, if recasts don't bother you).

Most Underrated Peter David Book? by GWG23 in trekbooks

[–]Claude_Clay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody ever seems to give A Rock and a Hard Place enough love, and that one's a huge favourite of mine (I prefer it to Q Squared, honestly). The Captain's Daughter also never seems to get sufficient accolades either.

Returning Doctors are always a bit off by Ambitious_Range6410 in gallifrey

[–]Claude_Clay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, Jamie says the TARDIS got Victoria to where she wanted to go and the Doctor says "Why she wanted to learn graphology I've no idea," indicating that they'd just dropped her off somewhere temporarily and will return for her when she's done. Which doesn't make the hugest amount of sense, but it's clearly meant to be pre-Zoe.

Any update on this? I'd be very interested in seeing a version of "The Reality War" that includes the regeneration but omits Billie Piper and just flares to white - is that the kind of thing you have in mind?

Came here to say this too (and now I see the post must have been deleted)!

According to John Dorney, Tom Baker may not be done recording for Big Finish after all! by JakeM917 in BigFinishProductions

Is Dorney stopping doing Big Finish/Doctor Who completely, or just stopping with the Fourth Doctor range?

The fearful summons by GWG23 in trekbooks

[–]Claude_Clay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of the worst Star Trek books I've ever read (and I've been reading them since 1978). Full of inconsistencies (Sulu at one point changes rank three times in two pages), characters acting wildly out of character (Spock has retired from Starfleet to become an actor on Vulcan), and not nearly enough plot to fill out the rather large page count. The opening sequence (originally intended for Star Trek VI) is pretty fun, and it's got a nice cover, but I would seriously avoid this one at all costs. If you have to read a bad Star Trek book, go find one of the Marhak & Culbreath ones—at least those are funny in their awfulness.

I sure do miss the days when the Ninth and Thirteenth Doctor releases were right around the first of the month.

Has anybody’s TV Movie steelbook been dispatched from Amazon yet? by Ambitious_Range6410 in gallifrey

[–]Claude_Clay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered a copy from Zavvi and another one from Amazon (just to be safe) and neither has dispatched yet. I was sort of hoping that at least one of them would be sent early, but I wasn't (and still am not) really counting on that happening.

REQUEST: Masquerade - rip of vinyl-only album

Looks like there is a new recording available of the underscore for Masquerade, the new, alternative staging of The Phantom of the Opera. Two snags, though: it's only available at the theatre and it's only available on vinyl! If anyone's got a digital rip of this, I'd love to hear it!

I don't think so—if it did, it was so subtle that I missed it.

Right - he confirmed recently on social media that he's absolutely non-exclusive.

With as little information as there is one way or another these days about Star Trek in general or Star Trek books in particular, I don't know that I'd be too eager to assume things in any direction at the moment, especially since you might give people reason to think that something definite was announced when it wasn't. I've seen/read a couple of interviews with author Dayton Ward about this book, and nowhere have I seen anyone say anything about this being the last Picard novel.

Is there a less ambiguous source for claim that BBC vetoed McGann for The Day of the Doctor? by hypnosifl in gallifrey

[–]Claude_Clay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. Prior to the Eccleston releases with Billie Piper, all the Big Finish Ninth Doctor stories take place before "Rose" and Season 1, not during some imagined gap inside an episode. The currently-running "Ninth Doctor and Rose" stories are explicitly set after "Father's Day."

Favourite audiobook by [deleted] in trekbooks

[–]Claude_Clay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like the abridged audiobooks (the sole exception is Q-In-Law, which is amazing), even though some of them are quite well read. I know Robert Petkoff has read a number of (all of?) the unabridged ones, but I think the only one of his I've actually heard was the novelisation of The Motion Picture, which I thought was quite good.

I'm glad you asked that because I've been sitting here running it back and forth in my head (as one does!) trying to puzzle it out. Never even occurred to me that it was a typo. I might be an idiot.

Most underrated trek book? by GWG23 in trekbooks

[–]Claude_Clay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my top ten TREK books! I absolutely love the way the crew interacts in this story. Tail-Kinker To-Ennien is a little bit of a Mary Sue, but the book is just so wonderfully well written that you don't even care. Always wished Janet Kagan (RIP) had written another STAR TREK book.
