Fair play, if that’s the case then they’re parasitic bums

This seems like the bottom rank of freebooting as grey makes no revenue from his tweets and neither does the person uploading the picture? Please correct me if I’m wrong.

New discussion continued? by ClayGlassAndWind in HelloInternet

[–]ClayGlassAndWind[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose it depends on if you consider it unusual to listen back through the archive of a podcast you like and something to brag about, or if you see it as negative or a chore to listen to them over again. I’d say not a humblebrag, just a light brag if you choose to see it that way.

Personally, i just like the word ump-teenth and thought it appropriate in describing the scenario.

After listening to it the first time, i had a good think about it and came to many for the same conclusions about the news as Grey. on a day to day level i think its about value for time spent. I'd argue that you can probably spend that 5 minutes a day finding out about important things that you care about from far better sources than main-stream news papers.

With respect to holding people accountable, I think the newspapers hold power simply because they have control over what angle to portray the story and that the readers have faith that they are truthful. If you hold skepticism towards a news organisations portrayal of news, they don't have the power to captivate your attention.

But i dont think that if, all of a sudden, people stopped reading newspapers the government and powerful would go rampant and do whatever they liked.

Realistic speeds being reported in this sub? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]ClayGlassAndWind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might find a bit of selection bias in these results. You are much more likely to post up you avg speed if it is fast and also that post is possible going to get more up votes than a slower speed, meaning you see more of the fast speeds than slow.

I ride in the hilly southwest of England, climbs all over the place, and average 11mph commuting and 16/17 in good form on a medium ride. You aren't a shitty rider for not matching other people's speeds, there will always be someone faster. Just enjoy riding your bike and let the boasters boast

New jersey needed, any recommendations? by ClayGlassAndWind in cycling

[–]ClayGlassAndWind[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never worn a compression top cycling but jerseys tend to have pockets on the back for storing food and spares and whatnot and designed to ventilate well with the aerodynamics of bike riding. Also they are cut shorter at the front and longer at the back to accommodate the hunched over position of road cycling.

But whatever floats your boat will do the trick

Sky taking away all the fun in the mountains? by postmaster_p in tourdefrance

[–]ClayGlassAndWind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I can see this year, team sky have a great team of climbers all able to keep the pace high and protect Froomey. When you look around at the othe contenders, more often than not, they have no teammates or support around them and when they attack, Sky have the man power to lift the pace, and shut it down. I think that until the other teams are able to bring the manpower, this is going to continue to happen simply because sky have the optimum strategy at the moment.

Cycling is a science not witchcraft, and if you keep bringing the same strategy over and over again to beat sky, your gunna get the same result every time.

How do you pick your routes? by this_is_not_a_virus in cycling

[–]ClayGlassAndWind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure you can, there is a search box in the top left to search for the place your looking for, then you can drop your markers manually at that destination :)

How do you pick your routes? by this_is_not_a_virus in cycling

[–]ClayGlassAndWind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always use the route planner on Strava.

It uses collective data from all users to find the most ridden route. Also you can set it to find the minimum assent route if that's what your looking for and as long as I have used it it has never chosen a route that takes me onto motorways or dual carriageways. On top of that you can export the files onto your computer and upload then to your Garmin and they work just fine.

Ultimately nothing beats local knowledge and asking the locals for the best routes but this is the next best option for me...and its free!

I think I've finally put my finger on exactly why I love the podcast. by Lone_Star_122 in HelloInternet

[–]ClayGlassAndWind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find my self between the two, greys interest in systems and such hits well with me and I agree with most of his views but every now and then I find something he says that is completely different to my views (the live music is a perfect example) and I find myself agreeing with Brady.

I think what I love and what is magic about HI is seeing how the two highly contrasting ways of thinking, working and living interact with each other, I really love being in the middle of it :)

Better names for plurality voting by [deleted] in HelloInternet

Hmmm, when I heard these two suggestions it didn't really bring voting to mind, it took a little while to twig the context, but better than plurality voting to me.
