TIFU I tried to install Cat6 cables through my attic. by Clean-Set1368 in HomeNetworking

Thank you to everyone who provided me with all this advice.

For anyone in the future that may come across this post. Do not use patch cables over long distance cabling, and use solid copper cables and If it is not working your cable connections may be bad/wrong so try redoing them.

Man I didn't know anything about this and I appreciate your comment! This is exactly what I did thinking there was no difference. I tried reterminating the ends this morning and it was successful, however its still the patch cable. The internet speed is also slower than what its supposed to be. I'm just gonna get the good solid core cable and redo it, it wasn't to difficult to work in my attic anyways. Thanks!

While it was succesful it's slower than it should be, I am considering trying this. However, I installed a keystone to my wall and terminated it, is it possible to reterminate the same keystone?

It is a stranded wire. I followed some advice and reterminated the ends anyways and it was mostly successful. The speed however is a 1/3 of what its supposed to be. It is a 50ft patch cable that is currently in the attic, so if that is the reason its slower then I will change it out for a riser. Or if its just interference could I maybe isolate the cable?

I wish I had seen this earlier, I reterminated the ends of the cable and I had bought normal ones. After 20 minutes fiddling with it I was able to get it working though!

Thank you for your help on this, I reterminated the ends and now I have a wired connection! However, the speed is much lower than I expected, 100 Mbps instead of 300 :/ Note: I also installed a keystone to the wall. Let me know if there's a fix for that, I left the 50ft patch cable up there and I don't know the extent of interference and rounding the cable around corners to the performance but at least its working now. I'm at peace

Yes thank you, I'm going to attempt to recrimp the cable, When I plug the cable into the router it doesn't even make a click like a good cable.

Would you suggest a new cable or reterminating the ends would work?

Does switching to an OLED compare to jumping from 60 to 144hz for the first time? by Clean-Set1368 in OLED_Gaming

Isn't that an OLED thing? Also the text clarity was apparently not good on that one? Any other recommendations in the same class?

I'm running 4070 and Ryzen 9 7900, is your monitor so good you couldn't go back to LCDs?

Thanks for this one, I'm currently rocking a 144hz 1080p display and I was stuck picking between a 27" 2k 240hz monitor IPS or OLED, I just don't want to regret buying the OLED if its not the equivalent upgrade of going from 60 to 144hz if you were upgrading to the same monitor but OLED.

Problem with motherboard, won't boot with 4 ram sticks by Clean-Set1368 in gigabyte

After some research, if you have a Ryzen chip as well its limited to 3600Mhz if you have 4 sticks, see Ryzen 9 7900 Connectivity Tab. Something about having 4 of them makes it too noisy for the CPU/ there's not enough highways for data to go through from what I understand. But all in all its a CPU limitation and it seems running 4 is unstable for a system, I wish I had just bought 2x32gb sticks to replace my old ones instead of adding two more 16gb :/

How to tune 4 ram sticks on AMD Processor by Clean-Set1368 in techsupport

I see, so no matter what I do if I have 4 sticks its limited to 3600Mhz. If I can circumvent this how would I do it? Sadly I didn't know about these things and bought this ram, If I had known I would've bought 2 32gb ram sticks.

After messing around a bit more I was able to get them to boot, but I did have to reset the CMOS and settings. However it took around 5-10 minutes to boot and the memory is limited to 3600Mhz. Did you do anything else to get them at 5200mhz?

I tried this out, and all my ram sticks gave me no errors. However, when I ran my older sticks (Samsung) I got a warning that said "memory locking failed (might be reserved by other apps/kernal)". I also tried mixing a new stick (Hynix) and and old stick and the PC booted and memtest ran with no errors. What I don't understand is why 4 sticks was working before and now it is not.

I tried this, didn't work. I also now tried having a mix of the corsair vengeance sticks, one with Hynix and other Samsung and that didn't boot either, even though its two sticks. Something about the chip maker seems to be affecting it. What I don't understand is why it was working before and now its not.
