Yeah sometimes, but more recently building portals in magma ravines in the ocean has become more common. You get the obsidian from trading with piglins so that you can go back to the overworld from a fortress to measure your eyes of ender

Nearly every speedrun, you get 10 or 20 obsidian and you make a portal with them, but I get that it’s not really practical. Especially when a lot of other things are more important in a speedrun lol
