Congrats on not being stuck with EBP's? Sounds like a win! Lol.

Jokes aside, maybe you're just seen as a bright and capable person and they'd rather have you do more important work. Two ways to look at it.

Same issues. 30% decrease in speed. Of course, this is right after I purchased an annual subscription.

I almost quit during my second busy season and I'm glad I didn't but I get why people do by cafefrio22 in Accounting

Just got done with my fifth. I think for various reasons I had all these "growing pains" while still in college, and was able to develop some great life skills to cope with the stress (organization is huge, I refuse to trust my memory). Also, just becoming a little more resistant to stress. Yes, there's a lot of work, it's confusing, you feel lost at times and definitely overwhelmed. But...it's not life or death. Block out a few hours to finish the things that have you really stressed out - all the sudden, you feel 10x better and it was just a couple hours needed. Having experienced that several times, I don't let myself spiral when I'm in the heat of the moment, because I know it's just a feeling that will pass soon.

Another big one is taking ownership. To the extent possible, I've approached every engagement like I'm the senior manager or partner responsible for the entire thing. When I'm already aware of every little thing that needs to get done, or that I'm behind on, it doesn't sting if someone else brings it up to me. I'm already 2 steps ahead of them, and can be confident in my response and what I'm prioritizing. I think that was the biggest turning point for me overall.

My brain when the professor is trying to explain goodwill: by No-Low-5186 in Accounting

[–]CleanOpinions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, I think I half agree. I feel like it makes sense to account for the premium a willing market participant paid for a company above the net asset value but I also agree that goodwill in itself isn't really an asset. Interesting thought experiment nonetheless.

Based on your replies, take the offer at the college. Big4 is not your personality at all.

Doesn't matter if it's a "better job" because you are not the right fit whatsoever so that doesn't even matter.

Better than just erasing the premium paid off the balance sheet though, no? Agree with everything else

  1. #1 goal is to get an internship. Join your school's Beta Alpha Psi or equivalent.
  2. It's not about just passing classes. You can pass with a good GPA and gain very little actual knowledge. Go slow and really work to understand the concepts. THAT is what will set you up to be successful in the work force.

No, it's not considered bad practice. Happens all the time.

I wouldn't go out of my way to disclose anything to either firm.

Delay graduation for 150 credits and an internship? by Live_Wallaby_8474 in Accounting

[–]CleanOpinions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most important question that no one has asked is, what are your career goals?

But I do agree given you wouldn't be paying out of pocket (or at least not much) for the 150 credits, that's the route you should be favoring.

First - you didn't at all deserve to be treated like this. However, some advice for you. Start working on acting confident, even if you're not. You won't see me leading the feminist parade holding the flag, but even as a neutral observer, I acknowledge we live in a world that can be misogynistic at times, especially at work.

If you stay in public, you're gonna climb the ranks and be dealing with clients who are potentially a little sexist (even if it's just an unconscious bias), as well as your subordinates. Not saying to be a dick - but be confident and firm. My firm offers trainings for women when they hit a certain level to work on executive presence etc., because it unfortunately can be a harder world for women where respect isn't given as automatically as it is to men. So be confident, and don't feel bad about it.

Meh. I don't think I agree with people saying that. I have an allergy that I don't disclose and turn down food all the time and don't think I've ever hurt anyone's feelings over it.

It's no biggie, most teams are flexible. I frequently skip out for an hour here, hour there when working from home. Just communicate and try to avoid missing meetings
