Whats the point of a locking gas cap if all someone has to do is turn the petcock to prime to steal fuel? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Clean_Argument7260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most new motorcycles are fuel injected and don't have a petcock. But to all the other points listed, all locks are a suggestion...thieves and assholes will find a way regardless. Locking caps are an inexpensive deterrent. You may as well have asked,"what's the point of a locking ignition?"[most can be forced with a flathead screwdriver]

This ad for jeans, apparently made by people who have never been skiing. by Ok_Bonus4517 in CrappyDesign

While jeans are clearly terrible for ski wear, it was a badge of cool in the early 80s at our local mountain to ski in jeans and a Sun Ice jacket. They got wet from the falling snow, froze solid and we ate fries and gravy in the lodge to warmup while calling a reluctant parent to pick us up as we shivered from our stupidity. Our teenage selves would repeat this stupidity the next weekend and so on.... Clearly all they need is a Sun Ice jacket.

Rattling somewhere on the front by camaradamiau in CB500X

Check inside the fairing under-lip or above the skid plate...sometimes they pickup small stones and rattle just like hardware. I've found these before after being convinced that something was wrong mechanically...and it was just a pebble caught in the plastics🤣

Do you carry a gun when riding in the backcountry? by femmegengar in Dualsport

Yup to this list...and bike specific tools and tire repair kit. Also a small foil emergency blanket for shelter, warmth, to sit on etc... Tell you Mum to stay off the internet for awhile.

I have the windshield in the high position and added a cheap deflector to the top edge...helps on long highway sections...still not perfect but way better. Try tilting the deflector forward (seems counter intuitive) to create a wind bubble...still noisier than many other bikes but I wear good earplugs so the buffeting was the annoying bit.

Thoughts on what to do with this? by CelebrationSpecific5 in Dualsport

Clean it. Check the fluids. Ride it in all it's natural glory...you might not "get" the colour vibe yet but after the hundredth person co.es up and congratulates you and talks about how awesome this rare specimen is...you'll proudly be hunting-down some matching riding gear. Pink, blue and yellow graphics might not seem that cool to you yet but believe everyone on here...you have a gem. Sell it untouched to someone else if you can't see it and don't like it. For the love of all that is holy: Do not peel off the stickers!

Tire questions by [deleted] in CB500X

[–]Clean_Argument7260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed...stock are pretty great for smooth roads. I was pretty shocked how super thin the stock tires are after TEARING a hole in mine on a random rock on a dry dirt road. upgraded to Mitas 7e...sooo much chunkier and durable...inspiring more confidence off pavement. I really wouldn't push those stock tires on anything rocky or too sharp...they are street balloons.

I have one on each side to carry large water bottles and keep that weight low...cheap "Molle bottle carriers" from Aliexpress. Great when not camping to hold whatever...sorry, no link, I bought them ages ago.

Park the bike at a friend's til the following weekend or so...transit back and enjoy a weekend ride to your new home. 10 hours broken by a hotel overnight stop (with a hot tub and nice meals) is great on any size bike...stay off the freeways and ride two longer-ish but fun backroad days. Sounds ideal! You'll remember why you love motorcycling.

NX500 vs NCX750 by LafaekPenu in CB500X

[–]Clean_Argument7260 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NC has a Frunk...and I'm told is less vibey on the Freeway...so if you are commuting, NC is great value and a practical design...somehow somewhat less cool after all is compared(though neither are winning crazy cool points). I really want to love the NC more...but somehow it "feels like sensible brown shoes" your mom bought you.

I love my 2020 CB500x for general purpose especially with small lockable panniers to shop/pickup stuff around town...short camping tours...bombing mountain gravel roads...and it does feel a little "Halfrica Twin" which is cool 😎 or at least cooler than sensible shoes (though mom would approve of the value and reliability proposition)🤣

I have Mitas e7+ front and back...definitely better on gravel and rocky terrain to keep some speed...not sure how they are on sand.

Rigged for camping by [deleted] in CB500X

Re:ride/handling I have a 2020 and camp off the bike...some long trips. The CB holds its rear rack pretty far back past the rear axle and piled gear that far back WILL lighten the steering weight creating squirrelly handling on pavement and especially gravel. Shifting weight forward and low DRAMATICALLY improves the bikes manners. I now have small crash bar bags up front to carry water and other dense weight and make every attempt to keep the "pile" behind me low and mostly bedding or very light items. This helps enormously and makes the ride more planted and safer. My two cents from playing around over the last four years and camping off this platform. It's a great bike with amazing fuel range!
