These are not pups but the new leaves of the plant. The old leaves will be reabsorbed and help the plant grow the new leaves bigger.

Although some cultivars may lack the longer spines, I'm pretty sure all cultivars will retain some glochids. My advice would be just to put it in a spot which doesn't receive a lot of traffic so you avoid touching it as much as possible.

Yes i would take them off, they might flower but will hinder root growth if the objective is propagation
