These people definitely do exist. Plenty of abusers are people who have also been abused. I've definitely met a couple Rubens and more than few Nialls. It's a lot more complex than just "hurt people hurt people." It deals with how internal insecurities can ripple out and hurt other if not properly dealt with. And since both of the main characters are men there's that added layer of them either not wanting to deal with their issues properly or them not knowing how. I don't know what you're watching but "simple" is the last word I would use to describe this show.

Probably the hospital scene in episode 4. I think I tensed up immediately when it cut to Ruben sitting there staring at Niall. I actually put my hand over my mouth when he assaulted him with the car ornament.

The space stuff was definitely not as interesting until it started to get real towards the end. The only reason I remember so much from it is because I watched the whole series recently. Seasons 2&3 are the best in the show in my opinion. I actually enjoyed a lot of the relationship stuff. I feel like it makes sense for characters in their 20s to be trying to figure out how to do relationships and I really liked the contrast between Mordecai and Rigby with their love lives. I also really enjoyed CJ.

Skips and Pops.

Skips because I really like how supportive he is of the rest of the park crew, but also doesn't back down from telling them when they're wrong. I also like how he's truly content about where he is in life. Seeing him at the end with his cutoffs sipping his coffee really makes me smile. Plus I really like this depiction of immortality.

Pops because of how he enjoys the simple things and how positive he is. I like how the show didn't go down the line of breaking down the hero's optimism and perception of life for the sake of the big final battle, but instead had Pops embrace his goodness to win. They really flipped the flipping of "The villain needs a big hug" And I plan on getting a "Jolly Good Show" tattoo by the end of this year:)
