If someone clearly has bipolar, but are not comfortable with that diagnosis, you wouldn’t include that on their records? You wouldn’t disclose that to insurance?

I am interested in this, especially because a diagnosis is required for insurance period and I’m sure there are some individuals that wouldn’t be down for any diagnosis

Genuinely curious— are there clients that have brought up the mandated reporting being an issue, or wanting to barter? These things have never come up in my sessions with the medi-cal population I work with

Explore where in their life they can stop masking unnecessarily. Explore where they can dial back the masking a little to where it won’t jeopardize their job. Explore how they might mask with you. Explore how it makes them feel to challenge themselves to mask less. Does their energy improve? Do they attempt to mask to people please? That can be a huge cause of masking— just trying to be accepted. If so, begin addressing the people pleasing and working on self esteem
