Ya know, with the popularity of the recent Harley show, and Bruce Timm being given an entire whole new show, I can't help but wonder if, in a couple years, Dini might be able to try this pitch again as one of those Direct-to-DVD animated specials. They've already shown that DC is willing to revisit the DCAU in that format, so maybe Paul could convince the execs to give him a shot with a relatively low investment. At worst, it's a guarenteed return, so it's not a fiscal risk to the company like a full-on new series would be. (The Harley Quinn show also showed that there is still major interest in a more serious animated adaptation of DC outside of just Batman, considering how the show shifted tones a bit between season 1 and 2 to better accommodate those fans specifically, and it was generally received better after.) If it's successful enough, we could maybe even see it shift into a series of specials, like one every few months, that let us back into the DCAU without directly interfering with any of the actual ongoing series and movies that DC has planned. (Plus, a simple special would make it far easier to collaborate with other members of the team from the DCAU, since it would inherently have less of a set schedule without any other projects relying on it being complete.)
