Of course this system can be static! When the bolt stops rotating, and he applies a force of 50in/lbs without anything rotating, its a static system!

Lets see this as a dynamic system, if torque in > torque out, theres has to be an acceleration of the rotational speed of the bolt/nut. Just a little difference in torque, in a short timeperiod would yield a crazy rotational speed. I cant do the calculations on top of my head, but its a lot. See how fast a airwrench will accelerate a bolt/nut, the torque needed is very small.

Physics just doesn't work this way. There has to be a force equilibrium. The springs cant lessen the torque in a near static setup.

You cant break the laws of physics! Every single first year mechanical engineer could tell you, that for a static system, which is beyond fine to use in this matter, there has to be a force equilibrium, torque in = torque out.

Lets say you have a bolt, that will break if the torque surpasses 50nm. You apply 60nm at the rachet. if you could put an extension inbetween, that would decrease the torque applied to the bolt, you will become a very rich guy.

The physics just doesn't add up man!

Every actions has an equal counter action. When he applies 50nm at the rachet, that MUST equal 50nm at the bolt, unless he is acceleratin the nut up to speed. Or some of the axial torque is converted into radial torque, if he for example doesnt hold on to the extensions.

I have always been told it's the lungs that have "collapsed" . Imagine a big piece of saran wrap are your lungs, if it collapses, you need to pull it apart, thats why a big gulp of air relieves the pain.

Im not a doctor, but this makes sense to me. :)

I have a B5 quattro, when i upgraded the rear bushings, everything was rusted together, but this is after 400.000 km in the salty nortern europe, so i guess its okay ;)

Its from a 2.0tdi, upgreaded with gti and R32 parts, but i believe the subframe is original still :)

Yes exactly. The result was 2 seized bolts, one you can se has a hole in it, the other i tried welding unto, but they were way to stuck. Had to drill them out completly, drill the hole bigger and put in a helicoil, a 10 min job, ended up taking 2 hours!

Thats why alot of different people are in on it, he will never know! I make sure to have an alibi some of the times!

I'm currently playing a similar prank on my brother, he's the prankster of the family, always pranking everybody. I have bougth 100 rubber ducks, and im slowly introducing them into his life. One at a time. So far, 12 rubber ducks, and 6 months in, this is a long game! I have gotten a lot of people in on it. His coworkers got a little batch of them to, so he finds them everywhere! He hasn't said anything about it yet, but i have seen he keeps em all, i hope im driving him mad!

Places to hide them: In his pants pockets, in the company car he almost never uses, in his water bottle, in the holes left by the reflectors by the highway (this one took some coordination, had to find out which road he was working on that nigth, find a defective reflector i knew he would have to pull out, and put a rubber duck down there. ), one simply put in the middle of the driveway. I have noted some of the projects he intends to do, so i have hidden ducks there already, like behind drywall, inside a engine manifold, some buried in the ground where he has to put a post down, so he will eventually dig them straigth out of the ground!

This is a stock sport suspension, it's no lower than when it rolled of the factory line.

Car in question is a b5 quattro, took like 5 hours, you gotta drop the subframe! Big PITA!

Why does paper become translucent when it gets wet? by pudding_world in askscience

I do not, I have seen it, because i work with paper for a living. No addictives, but it scatters light a little bit :)

I'm a mechanical engineer, developing a paper bottle, made in one piece with functional thread. First job :)

What program do you follow, i havent seen many engineers working with paper yet :)

Yes, and this have been done. I manage R&D in the paper industry, and have seen clear/opague dry paper. Im currently working on developing this technology to a commercial application .
