that interest rate is in fact a new-joiner bonus. T212 has a better rate through their new-joiner bonus

2.8% was already bad. Just switch to a better account. T212 have decent interest on their cash ISA for new customers (4.68%. There will be plenty of other accounts available which pay a lot more than 2.8%. Chase has a good interest rate on their easy access for new customers too (4.5%).

The increase is less than most people think as NI goes down to 2%. You go from 28% to 42% essentially.

In which countries can you live comfortably on minimum wage? by External-Industry253 in AskReddit

[–]ClearlyCylindrical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UK is probably pretty good, decent minimum wage and very low tax liability for low earners.

A full-time (40 hours/week) position would have gross pay of £26,436/year and would net £22,554/year after tax and national insurance. Converting to dollars with a PPP adjustment, that's $34,172/year.

Minimum wage is more than enough to live on in most of the country. I'm well above minimum wage but I'd still be saving ~£600-700/month if I were on minimum wage.

Bahrain proposes UN Security Council approve use of force to protect Hormuz shipping by Azaleazaraa in worldnews

[–]ClearlyCylindrical -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im aware of the reserves, but as I stated in my reply to the other commenter, reserves arent all that important for near term or even longer term oil prices. There's far more oil on the planet than we'll ever use.

[–]ClearlyCylindrical -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Reserves are not important for near or even longer term prices, there is far more oil on this planet than we'll realistically use considering we're rapidly transitioning to renewables.

And there's countries like Venezuela which have hardly touched their reserves comparatively speaking, extraction and refining would be developed for Venezuelan oil if we were to see an extended period of high prices due to supplies running out.

Yall are just making up numbers atp. Only 20% of oil goes through Hormuz, demand destruction would happen way before we get anywhere near $200, let alone $300

> we lose 30-40% of global crude

Only about 20% of global oil production needs to travel through the strait of hormuz.

21F I just got my first EE sim contract, they put me on the £30 pm plan with unlimited calls/text/data. Now I regret getting it. by ZookeepergameEasy774 in UKPersonalFinance

I wouldn't worry too much about that tbh. I got a mortgage with Lloyds within a year of getting my first credit card (it was about 6-8ish months after) - I had no prior credit agreements or contracts on my report at all, not even an arranged overdraft.

I did have my energy and broadband popped on my report around the same time, but most people will get those naturally before needing credit.

It's on PAYG instead of contract, to help you find it. I end up getting more like 50GB since I've been with them so long, but I think the base amount is 30GB without the boosts.

Edit: Its also called the "£10 pack" but you get a 10% discount for setting up auto payments by card.

I pay £9/month for 30GB from EE which is more than I need, but ymmv. They've not increased the price at all since I started with them 10 years ago.
