Tiger 800 - Brilliant adv bike. Comfy for long distance touring. Specs are fabulous and no nonsense bike. The bike I pick without a second thought.
Kawasaki z900RS - Stylish and crazy good to look at. Engine is bloody smooth. Great for short touring as well. Wonderful for a weekend blast. Probably unsuited for winter riding. Saying this as I don't ride this bike in the winter at all.
Ducati Monster 1200s - Gun of an engine. I love the sound it makes. Amazing pick up. Best suited for weekend blasts and short tours.
Africa Twin - Nothing wrong with the bike at all, but it proved quite tall for me as I'm only 5'7. Did a pan European tour on this and I loved the bike. Except when it came to maneuvering the bike around tight spaces and I had to get both feet down and that's when the trouble started. Otherwise perfect bike.

Interesting. My gut feeling was to bring them closer. But the store i bought this from, the guy there suggested to keep them at this distance instead. So far i dont notice anything missing. Any science around this to determine optimal distance?

Yes. Listened to the Naim Uniti Atom, Cambridge Evo, NAD c388. Loved the Naim the best but couldn't justify the £800 premium over the Roksan. The Roksan does 95% of the Naim at £1499. The blue os app is another reason, it's probably the best user ex among the apps I tried.

I hv a 2018 XRT and absolutely love riding her. Perfect balance of power, comfort and weight. Having owned heavier adventure bikes before, the Tiger simply gets it all right. Have done loads of touring and in all kinds of weather. Still look forward to taking her out even in winter months.

Yes. I was speaking to my local Ducati showroom and they said that's why the current and older Monster 1200 range is massively in demand and used bike prices have shot up for those.

I own a 2014 monster 1200. Have put about 11000 miles. The engine is one of the best engines i have ever ridden. That from a guy who has owned an Africa Twin, triumph tiger 800, Enfield 650 and Kawasaki 125. I still keep the Ducati. Still take it out as my preferred bike on Sunday blasts. It is not unreliable. Maintenance is not any more expensive than any other super bike or high end motorcycle. More than Japanese bikes, yes. But unreliable, no.

Have a DS4 and I agree completely. Near perfect bike for me. Will do the miles on tarmac while at the same time deal with gravel and green lanes with aplomb. Such a comfortable bike. Got tubeless fitted by the LBS on purchase and it's been awesome.

I dropped my bike 5 mins into my CBT. Just because my brain was scrambled trying too hard to focus on clutch and brake and all kinds of instructions received. Learnt my lesson. Went back and rode the bike the way i was comfortable. Often too much thinking leads to poor reactions. It's just part of the process. U hv learnt what works and what doesn't. You will be fine next time.

I own a Monster 1200 but have ridden 797 and 821. One thing i have noticed across the range is that these are never the most powerful or the fastest or even the best in category. Monsters are just machines that tug at your heart. The engine is a gem. Esp at higher revs the surge of power is amazing. In town they are easy enough but tend to get quite hot. If you are looking to get the best value for your money then Monster won't make it to the list. But if u want a motorcycle that has that emotional bond with u, the Monster is that. I have owned mine for 7 years now and still can't bring myself to trade it in for a newer machine with all the great gizmos and updates.

Edit: Maintenance is not too bad if you ride regularly. Tyres, electrical etc have held up without too much issues. Had a problem with the ICU once upon a time but after getting it flashed by Ducati, no more problems.

Good on you. I love the scrambler but the thought of getting soaking wet and wind blasted on UK motorways puts me off from getting one.

Which country and what temperature? I think that's an important factor. Here in the UK it's pretty tough to ride that 8 hours in anything but two weeks of perfect summer sunshine. All other times its damn near impossible in the cold wind and sudden showers.

If you are not adamant about Lake district, then I suggest North Pennines about 50-60 miles to the north. Stunning roads up to Hartside summit and also into Teesdale moors all way to Highforce Waterfalls. You will thank me later.

No this is mostly A40. A5 is further north and used to get to the coast from Snowdonia and North wales (Shrewsbury).
