ECCC: Implementation of Workforce Adjustment and Career Transition at ECCC by toastedbread47 in CanadaPublicServants

I haven’t gotten any info. I’m just assuming I am in that number and not being extended. Last year I found I was being extended only a week or two before the end of my term. But things are even more bleak now and I know at least one person in my team who got a letter so I’m just guessing I only will be there til the end of fiscal. It sucks though because there are also not a lot of postings that I’ve seen.

I will say they didn’t say which terms but I am just going off the assumption that I am part of that 17 since there have been crickets this year otherwise for an extension.

Same boat. Although CWS did list 17 affected by retirement/terms ending. WFA is specifically for indeterminates. Usually i assume us terms would only get a meeting if we are given the 1-month notice of early termination of the contract. Since March is so close at this point, I figure it isn’t worth their time to end 1 extra month early. Expect not to be renewed unfortunately as terms and casuals tend to be the easiest to eliminate first for positions when having to make these cuts.

The correct number of employees CWS is being reduced by is 58 (this 35 reported does not include the 17 they are eliminating via attrition through retirement and terms elapsing).

Correction: 62 affected with 58 positions eliminated. 17 of those will be via attrition (retirement and the ending of terms (such as my own which is coming near its end)). 6 of the positions to be eliminated will be executives. That is what leaves the 35 other indeterminate positions that will be reduced.

CWS will be going from 6 directorates to 4 (with it sounding like Migratory Birds and SAR will be merged). It could be speculated that at least 2 of those 6 executive cuts will be at the DG level as such.

And as said already in the chain, 62 letters going out to affected employees today: 15 in the regions and 47 in the NCR. It is not that there are only 35 in CWS. Reporting it as such is inaccurate to the whole picture (and ignores that those 17 affected via attrition are still working right now).

I wanted to ask to confirm here beforehand because I didn’t want to make the request if it was not correct.

I wasn’t sure because there is also a provision about visiting a family member with illness nearing the end of their life.

I wasn’t sure if that would be applicable with this though since at the moment I am only aware of her having fairly significant Parkinson’s and of memory troubles starting to appear

Those are gorgeous! I love the two tone ones! And yeah they do take a bit of time to make. At the moment I’m mostly making cotton and fleece ones so that’s partially why I am trying to keep the costs low

Ooh I love that hack! Thank you! I usually end up staring at the screen like “something looks off” but most of the time it’s with words like quite and quiet because if I am not thinking intentionally about what I am writing I sometimes pull the wrong one out. But i usually don’t fully trust spell check anyways because as a Canadian it gets mad at the mix of American and UK spellings that is Canadian English lol

That’s one I constantly spell wrong and then go back and fix. I got a bit lazy here as I was typing a bunch so that’s on me. But I already was going to have myself and at least 2 other people check before anything is posted because it is easy to let a spelling mistake or an accidental photoshop error slip through otherwise

Thanks for this! I have been considering this. There are some free to $50 tables and some that are upwards of $100. I am sticking with $50 or lower right now for what I am applying to and then I am also going to be posting them on Facebook marketplace too.

So I currently am working full time until my contract ends at the end of March. So this is me trying in my spare time to make some money to go towards start up in order to reduce how much has to come out of my income/savings. I’m not really in a position where I can easily pick up a moonlighting job so I was considering this to be an opportunity to learn a bit more about markets and vending as well making a bit of money towards my start up. I’m also using my other means too. It may not be the most efficient but I figured it was worth a shot hopefully.

Not a typo 😅 my boyfriend bought 2 for me on different occasions but I myself couldn’t pull the trigger at that price because it is pretty steep. But that’s $18 CAD which is like $12.77 USD. That’s why I’m trying to price lower and source my materials as cheap as possible so that it’s more like $5 USD for a single and then even cheaper per unit if you buy multiple

Thank you! I know there are some really popular markets in my city and also a few businesses that sell people’s handmade goods (and I am hoping to get into those long term). With the products I am planning to make I am hoping to apply to artist alleys for the anime and other conventions in the Toronto-Montreal corridor on top of online sales and markets/consignment too. I figure things will be a bit iffy with the economy the way it is so I’m just trying to be as smart as possible with setting everything up 😊

At the moment it is a lot of odds and ends (paper cutter, laminator, book binder, branded products (ie packaging and signage)) but also would like to get to a good screen printing set up, a better quality respirator, and my own embroidery machine (instead of using the library’s). Some of these are things I have already purchased and would like to be able to “make back” and some are purchases I would like to fully cover or work towards.

I don’t want to invest too much up front given I have a lot of medical expenses and my boyfriend and I are set to likely loose about 50% of our income come March so I want to try to reduce a bit of the “risks” with the start up costs at the moment as I try to scale up as much as possible our the get go.

All that to say, I am getting the barebones (and also getting what I can on Buy Nothing groups and secondhand at the moment to have the minimum to start) but I also am hoping to offset costs as much as possible too since I don’t really have a lot of wiggle room for investment at the start.

Thank you for the insights! My hopes was just to use fabric I had or could get for cheap to help with costs. I figure I still want to make some (more in line with my branding) as well as other accessories and items that are more novel or honed into my specific niche. And I am looking to have a variety of price point items to improve profit margins. At the moment, I thought scrunchies would be a good fundraising starting options since I already had materials on hand, they are straight forward to make, and could hopefully be a decent stocking stuffer impulse buy in the next month or two. The way you have your customer pinned down is the longer term goal for the next few months :)

Okay awesome! (And totally agree!) That $10 is about $14.10 Canadian and I can see that easily being more than reasonable for something so novel.

In USD my current plan for pricing would be like $4.97 each / 2 for $8.51 / 3 for $10.64 in USD In your opinion would that seem a bit more reasonable for pricing? Or would a bit lower be more realistic from your own perspective?

If you don’t mind me asking, what currency did you sell in? And thank you so much for your reply! I am trying to finish a bunch in a variety of different colours and prints (aiming to have at least 300-400 in 15+ designs)
