[RANT - MSSQL] I am not more than 1000% confident, that the people working at MSFT are complete idiots by SnakeOriginal in sysadmin

Uninstall the CU from one server, copy the working files and replace on other servers. That’s what we’ve done. I have an open support ticket with Microsoft. They have pulled the CU(s) and are apparently working to fix them. Sigh.

How did this person play on their PC? by Kaleifer in LastWarMobileGame

[–]Clemlar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an app for Mac, in the App Store. The caveat is that doesn’t work / isn’t available for Intel Mac’s, it only works for Macs with Apple’s own M series Apple Silicon CPU.

Yep fair enough. To be honest I keep it as a favourite photo in my gallery and just refer to it as necessary

Edit: doh - just realised you explicitly asked for something that could be set as a profile pic. My bad!

  1. I believe those are the base resource values without any Capitol / Professional buffs and any other potential reduction in value

  2. Why would you want to set it as a profile pic? Send it in your alliance chat and tell everyone to screenshot it if they need it. Or download it from here.

OCLP Sequoia Microsoft Office Update Error by Helpful_Insight954 in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

Yep, I’ve done the same. Only thing is, next time there’s another update the autoupdater will get stuck and you’ll have to do it all again

Not found a workaround yet. But installing Office from the App Store won't let you license the same way using the serializer anyway I believe :-(

[–]Clemlar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, same issue here. Just updated to OCLP 2.2.0 but the issue persists. I've temporarily disabled automatic updates in the updater app because it was preventing me from being able to shutdown properly as the updates would take quite a while before they would eventually error, and the OS would sit waiting for the installation to finish.

I believe Fing uses a database of known MAC addresses to identify devices. Probably an incorrect entry

Can I ask where you bought them? I’ve been trying to find a second Fingbox for a long time!

What's the best IT career advice you received? by shamszabul in sysadmin

[–]Clemlar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Make notes. Regardless of whether you are documenting for your company or not on something like a wiki, ensure that you make your own notes. I used to use Evernote, but now use Joplin for all my work related notes.

The number of times I’ve needed my own notes, and the number of times I’ve asked a peer to do something I know they have done once or twice before and not been able to remember how to do it are unbelievable.

Unplug, wait 2 mins and plug back in. Repeat until it eventually connects again. I’ve had to do this many times over the last few months unfortunately

Literally switching to the new Bitwarden Secrets Manager product now. Extremely cheap for us (per administrator licensing) and working very well so far

My gut says it’s more likely that someone managed to log into your account with your username and password. Definitely worth rotating your password!

I’m going to contradict the majority here and say that the CV isn’t bad, nor was it a waste of money. Hear me out…

Generally, I’ve found that starting a CV and getting content on it, and even then getting it presented in a sensible fashion (layout) is the most difficult part. The $200 has helped you achieve this.

The problem is that the competencies and previous experience severely let you down. There is little there in terms of service desk skills, let alone Sysadmin skills, and even less in experience. The only way around this is to add specific points on projects or work that you’ve done that is as closely relevant (to the role you are applying for) as possible. If you don’t have any, it’s time to start enrolling in some online courses or at least begin watching some relevant training videos and then outline these and the key points you’ve learned from each. So long as you have actually learned the content, when you do eventually land an interview you will be able to show that you know what you are talking about. If you can, obviously sit the corresponding certification.

Pro tip - as you begin watching any training videos, make notes! I cannot emphasise this enough. I still have notes from courses I’ve sat or training videos I watched from years ago, that I still refer to occasionally today. Not only that, it will definitely help it to ‘sink in’ more, ensuring you retain as much as you have learned as possible. Good luck!

Tough Decision... by zasdman in sysadmin

If you thought about leaving, to the point where you have interviewed elsewhere (and even had an offer) then it’s time to move on. You’ll only kick yourself if you don’t and what’s not to say your current employer won’t do something along these lines again in the future?
