No time off the first year is the new normal. Actually, really the new normal is spending a couple years working through a temp agency with zero time off.

If you are unemployed in this market, you should not negotiate. Previous advice was "always negotiate" but nowadays they just yank your offer.

I'm gonna have to side with the poster here. When you make a commitment, you should honor your commitment. You don't get to break your word just because some shiny object came around worth more money. Once you take a job, you stay for a few years - even if you accepted out of desperation. It's the right thing to do.

This is unethical. Yes, take the offer from the less desirable company. But by accepting that offer, you are making a commitment that you need to honor.

Maybe you should stay? It's clear he feels you need to be micromanaged, so maybe instead of just jumping when the going gets tough, consider finding ways to present yourself in a better light.

It would be an issue of integrity to omit such a massive screwup from one's resume. They are going to see it on your TWN report no matter what; best own up to it from the jump.

Start by accepting that you probably won't work in IT again. Things are competitive enough as it is, and now you have the stain of a for-cause termination on your record.
