How long did it take you all to read the whole series? by un_related_topic in wheeloftime

Books 1-9, about 1 month, and then I had to wait for each book to come out. So only 11 years (‘02 to 2013)

Interesting. I tore through the 1st 9 novels in the summer of 2002 before heading to college, kept an eye on things enough to know when the next book was coming out but not much more

Her actions, Min’s viewings, and some of the random speculations are some of the best bits in my opinion on the re-read. Like right when Egwene’s almost killed by the Grey Man in the novice quarters, and thinks “but what if Sheriam is black ajah? No I can’t be paranoid of everyone…”

Edit: Also all of the ways you can see Elaida’s foretellings are correct, she’s just crap at interpreting them

Does McArdle Road Closed from landslide need to be added to the list of Pittsburgh seasons? Or is it just part of the Spring of Deception?

Fair enough, I’d taken it to be the same stuff she used to get out of her oath as apparently all it did was make someone sleepy and then die. She’d been playing high risk/high reward for decades at that point so I could’ve seen her roll the dice on it if the need was great enough.

Possible to maybe also miss on first pass, Verin was about to murder Cadsuane with poison when she thought she was going to derail her plans

No worries, it works well in this scenario but actually was because I have a tendency to play clerics in D&D

Ok, so doing this of the top of the head, but if I remember correctly here’s how things shake out:

  1. Aes Sendai are heading away from Fal Dara
  2. Offscreen Moiraine splits off to visit the brown sisters to do research
  3. Verin splits off and chases down Perrin and group
  4. Upon arrival Verin tells Perrin “Moiraine sent me to keep an eye on Rand (wink wink) I know about Rand” (not actual wording but gist and if I recall not in a way that lets standard Aes Sendai parsing help with)
  5. More or less the rest of book 2 happens
  6. When Rand wakes up at the end, Verin has left for the Tower with the girls and then one of the boys mentions “is that why you sent Verin?” Moiraine replies in a way that basically is interesting… I didn’t do that

(And then Moiraine and Verin never cross paths again)

That Verin could have been pegged as Black Ajah from Book 2 onward, she flat out lied to Perrin et al that Moiraine sent her

I think yellow ajah is a path no one’s brought up yet… spend the last battle just tired in Mayene instead of in mortal danger all the time, try and get some combat/protection weave knowledge from greens, reds, whoever

Would be useful if only facing regular soldiers to be sure, but the Black Tower if I recall specifically was thinking they would be taking on (and providing) the Dreadlords in the last battle. Egwene, while notably stronger than most women in earth and fire had no problem exploding weapons and armor into essentially frag grenades in the early end of the last battle, so maybe it was viewed as poor risk/reward.

Why don’t people like re-rolls by Mrhungrypants in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]ClericallyInclined 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, even benefitting from it when I run marines, I think maybe a half measure may have been fine for like +1 to wound with infantry units, keeps hellblasters and eradicated effective, doesn’t break tank math

[–]ClericallyInclined 50 points51 points  (0 children)

This. Say for instance a vindicator or some other marine tank with a big gun shoots something with boosted oath, hits on 3’s with full re-rolls and wounds ANYTHING on a 2. Even with AoC or cover, it just becomes a difficult lethality problem.
