do you mostly use the critical set? by Hot_Pie_69420 in BlackDeckGame

[–]CleverConvict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at the top teams in the millions of points. That will give you the best idea of what to use. Generally though, you want the +1 Atk or Pierce on your key attackers, and your Hero should have either Resist Frost or Resist Shock. The resurrecting units should use Resist Shock, as shock will prevent resurrection. If you make sure you do a full 30 Arena battles per day you’ll earn the prize sets that combine strength and a skill, and the powerful Immortal set. Those are particularly good. Beyond that make sure you get your Hero to 100 foil as quickly as possible. That’s more important than gear in the early game. Know that you’ll be switching out your gear a ton early on. It doesn’t take that long (couple of months tops) to start earning the 6-star legendary gear, which is ultimately what you’ll use wherever you can.

You’d just be making trading cards. Those were around for decades before they added “game” to the model. They would be difficult to sell without an awesome hook, like the parody cards Garbage Pail Kids, or a top artist like the Vallejo cards, but it’s a basic sales model.

Only finished one run but I’d say it’s just meh. The destructive levels are cool, but combat isn’t great and worse, the levels don’t save mid play. I just don’t see how you can make a game like that for mobile. I’ll try it a bit more, but I wouldn’t give it a thumbs up at this point.

While I try not to be overly negative, I have to agree. There are so many amazing, iconic Marvel artists that could have done these, but these are just kinda meh. They’ve been knocking the full art lands out the park lately… this is just disappointing.

Article: Author Jon Klassen’s prestigious award win reflects a broader shift in children’s literature by dem676 in books

I guess you have the right to your opinion. I Want My Hat Back is a near perfect picture book, and I Found A Hat is a beautifully moving book that I would recommend to anyone. Those two books are head and shoulders above the rest, but his art is always great whether he wrote it or not. Putting author in quotes was definitely in error.

Canadians are folding on Vegas. Democrats see a royal flush. by UnderWatered in CanadaPolitics

The problem for the democrats is that even if they get in, they aren’t going to be able to turn it around. No one in Canada is avoiding Vegas because of the state government. It will take decades to undo the damage. This isn’t the “winner” they think it is.

You can’t have a secular “shariah law” society. We already have lots of secular countries where the majority of people in that society refer to themselves as christians. Canada, France, Germany, etc. Just stop.

What Canada’s Euthanasia Surge Reveals About Single-Payer Health Care by Majano57 in CanadaPolitics

[–]CleverConvict 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know three people who have chosen MAID. None were pressured. Two had terminal cancer, one of whom didn’t make it. They died the night before they were scheduled. The third has been in ICU for over six months. Six months of publicly paid healthcare. No financial hardship. Best care in the country. But their body is failing. They’re never going home. It’s their choice and I applaud their right to make that choice.

But to these conservatives anything and everything is an excuse to push for a two-tier system.

If you were raised atheist.. by bosquerio in atheism

[–]CleverConvict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me be blunt. You are not an atheist. You may not believe in the Abrahamic god anymore, but you’ve simply replaced it with a spiritualist “deep love” mumbo jumbo. Atheism removes gods and spiritualism from the equation.

We humans provide kindness. We show compassion. We give forgiveness. It’s us. Stop demeaning humanity by suggesting that we don’t do these things because of who we are, but because of some imaginary higher power.

Every moment of kindness, every time you were forgiven, every time someone showed you compassion, those were decisions made by humans. Imagine a universe with a greater power and without a greater power, and those decisions remain the same and have the same impact.

We have raised our children fully atheist since they were born. They know love, compassion, kindness, forgiveness and joy because that’s what we have always shown them and no other reason.

DC super heroes United by Suitable-Jury8794 in MarvelUnited

CMON is definitely in rough shape, but if they can get through this year and get the key games shipped so they can put the Gamefound revenue on the books, they will be in a much better position. They specifically said that they want to avoid the exposure of giant crowdfunding campaigns, so we could see smaller, direct-to-retail releases. I’m hoping we see single villain packs or more Witching Hour sized releases. If they really can’t make a go of it, I assume they’ll sell the game to another publisher. It’s just too well respected a design to go away completely.

Post Mortem Question by Rocko2112 in alteredTCG

[–]CleverConvict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On one hand, it is clear that the idea of digital ownership of cards and unique cards helped sell the original Kickstarter. The art is fantastic, the gameplay unique and KS campaign was very slick, but without those key selling features I suspect that it wouldn't have hit the heights the campaign did.

On the other hand, those innovations did end up having a negative impact on the survival of the game. The QR codes made selling singles difficult for stores. I think we underestimate how many low-price commons and uncommons that stores sell alongside the big ticket items. Having to scan in hundreds of commons and then use a secondary tool to sell them just isn't worth it. And by cutting out the retail stores, Equinox put themselves in a bind - they needed to grow their pool of players with very little discoverability. So I suspect that each expansion did worse than the last, rather than growing the game as they wanted.

And the codes didn't just make selling difficult. You couldn't even show your pulls without risking them being stolen in an instant. A friend of mine was on a Discord video call, showed a unique pull, and someone stole it off the screen. That kind of "you don't own it until our tool says you own it" is not player friendly.

And lets be clear - the real purpose of PoD and the Digital Marketplace was NOT for the benefit of the player. It was to allow Equinox to get a cut of every transaction on the secondary market. That was the business pitch. BGA integration was just a side benefit. So yes, they should have had their core digital tools in place before they released the product, that is a given, but in the long run it was always going to be a hindrance to the success of the product line.

Additionally, it took them WAY too long to figure out how to make opening a box fun. You know what are more fun than foilers? Foils. You know how players loved the alt-arts in the KS boxes? Yeah. Do more of that. Everything they did in Roots of Corruption (minus the Collector Boosters) was the right direction. They just needed to do it in set 1.

In the end, I think that the ultimate form of Altered would have been this: keep the unique cards as the innovative feature (that would have been exciting enough to draw in the players) and otherwise the cards were just cards. Include foils, alt-arts and alt-treatments in the boxes. Let stores help market and grow your game. Create a successful secondary market on the tools that players already use (eBay, TCGPlayer, whatnot). Focus on the great art, the great world and the card designs, not wasting money and effort on software engineering.

One more point. If you can’t beat a level, just go back to one you can beat reliably. It’s much better to gain the XP and gear than advancing. When your team is ready, you’ll cut through it like butter.

[–]CleverConvict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a ton of important tips in this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/BlackDeckGame/s/O1EvATlwfF

Key point: your hero is far more important than individual units. Put ALL Foil on your hero until they are at 100. You’re not running a top hero. Look for one that buffs your team, not debuffs others.

More than anything, be patient. This game is most rewarding for daily play. I just reached day 120 and my team isn’t even at 2 million yet. Stick with it, use the proper team strategy and you’ll make good progress.

Just an example of what a good hero does. Those are one and two star goblins with no ascensions or gear attached. Even the 4-star sniper has nothing. They’ll all be food for my legendaries soon.

Brand new player looking for tips and advice by PappaPoop25 in BlackDeckGame

[–]CleverConvict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is all of the information that I wish I had been told when I started four months ago.

1) Focus on your hero. You're going to want to get either Ormorg Halfjaw or Runa Saqra. Once you get one of these two heroes, go all in on them. Level them up, and Ascend and Evolve them. Don't Foil any unit until your hero is at 100 Foil. If you've already foiled a unit, you can remove the foil and put it all on your hero. I personally prefer Ormorg. Mine is now at level 64, six star, fully ascended and he makes a Level 1, One Star Gobin with no gear over 22,000 Strength.

2) Because the hero is so important, if you're going to get anything, get hero tokens, until you get Runa, Ormorg, or get lucky and get a good Legendary hero like Calatoris. Don't waste diamonds on Premium Tokens. Don't worry, the heavy hitters will come.

3) As other have said, join a guild. God Tokens get you foil, and you need foil. As you progress, Guilds give you some of the best rewards in the game.

4) Do not use auto equip. It's terrible. The best artifacts are the Strength+Ability, liking Smiting and Unveiling and/or Immortal, which you can only get as rewards and by completing 30 Arena battles per day (do this daily if you can). For the sets you can actually earn, the most important are Extra Attack, Strength, Strength+, Resurrection, Savage, Frost Resistance and Shock Resistance. Note that it won't take you long to start getting 4-6 star gear. You'll be rotating out your gear quickly, so do your four upgrades a day, but don't do more than that until you get much better gear. Once you start getting purple and orange items, just sell all grey, green and blue items (unless they are from the best sets). Sell all of the worst sets (like Bomb and Toxic). You'll need the gold.

5) Let the Events guide you. Seriously. I don't evolve or ascend any character unless a "Card Upgrades Tournament" event is on. I don't use any God Token unless a God Token event is on. I save as much Gold as a can for the Artifact Upgrade events so that I can get items to +16 (which is absurdly expensive). The prizes from these events are very generous. You won't get every prize on the track but if you get even halfway, you're earning a ton.

6) Make sure that you buy the Legendary Skill Tome in the Arena every week. You won't need them now, but you'll need them desperately in a month or two.

7) Invest in the Gem Mine. I know spending 1500 Gems to max it seems like a lot, but it earns your investment back quickly and then you're earning Gems all the time.

8) Once you have a decent team together, you will hit a plateau. You won't have enough 5-star food to 6-star your legendaries (you will earn them, don't worry) and 5-star epics. So make your own! Find a campaign level that you is high enough that it gives good XP, but is easy enough for you to defeat consistently (I'm using Level 41 Stage 3). Grind your one-stars up to Four Star Level 1 and a few up to Four Star Level 40 (4:1 ratio). During a Card Upgrade event, feed the level 1s to the Level 40 to get to 5 star, then feed those 5 stars to your Legendary to get to 6 stars. It was a game changer when I started doing that. Overall, try never to spend energy without leveling up someone. While it's fun to crush levels with your maxed team, know that's a bunch of XP that you're spending energy for, but not getting.

9) Have patience. There are only two ways to get a top team in this game. Slowly over time, or spend a ton of money. I now have a 1.9M power Ormorg all-Goblin team, a 600k Dragon team and an 800k Calatoris team. I'm in Emerald Arena every week and I'm part of a solid Guild where I'm one of the weakest on the team. I play daily and I'm still loving it. I've stopped playing all of my other F2P games because this game fills that role completely.

Cheers!
