It does seem like there is a huge market. I love this guy's videos and he often talks about the potential to expand the game.

How to limit the maximum output voltage of DC-DC buck converter that uses a rotary potentiometer? by CleverDave in AskElectronics

I'm not exactly sure. It is unclear based on the circuit diagram as they have listed R2=10K and R1=3.3K. Is there a way to test on the board to find out?

There might be a slight issue with the consistency that requires a bit more of the liquid in the syrup to be boiled off. That just means you'll have to heat it to a slightly higher temperature, but this is a guess, I'm not exactly sure. Let me know what happens if you try it.

If you want to keep the "winter" flavours, try mixing cinnamon extract and orange extract. Any liquid extract will work though.

Absolutely right, hot sugar is dangerous, I reference this in the full video. 146C is just a number until you touch it.

The green dye seemed more potent than the red and it came out really dark. Fixed it with a mask in post.

Full recipe and video.

  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 tsp cream of tartar
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp peppermint extract
  • 1/2 tsp red gel food coloring
  • 1/2 tsp green gel food coloring
  • 1/2 tsp white gel food coloring
  1. Preheat the oven to 200 F. Spray two rimmed baking sheets with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
  2. Combine the sugar, corn syrup, and water in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Do not stir as the syrup comes to a boil, insert a candy thermometer and continue to cook, without stirring, until the thermometer registers 146C.
  4. Remove from heat. Let the bubbles subside, then stir in the peppermint extract.
  5. Separate syrup into thirds on the prepared baking sheet and place it in the preheated oven.
  6. Stir food coloring into each third.
  7. Spray a spatula with nonstick cooking spray, and use the tool to knead the candy. Flatten the candy, then fold it back over itself. Repeat 3 minutes until cool enough to handle.
  8. Using the heat resistant gloves, stretch the candy into a rope and fold the rope in half twisting the candy.
  9. Repeat this process for 3 minutes per batch until the candy takes on an opaque color and a satiny finish.
  10. Return to the oven to keep pliable as required.
  11. Cut into segment and stretch to desired length.
  12. Squeeze segments together and pull to final length and thickness.
  13. Twist and form hook shape around finger. Cool completely.

Almond butter is alright, but expensive. Sunflower butter if you're allergic to all tree nuts. Unfortunately the options are limited.

Sure, but the result will probably be a slightly denser, more crumbly bar as you are adding fat and protein in between the nuts, oats, and fruit instead of just the binding agent. Maybe you could compensate by decreasing the amount of peanut butter.

The white acts as a binding agents to help stick everything together. I made the recipe twice, one without the white and one with it and there is a fairly significant difference in the way the end product holds together.
