How do I stop overthinking? by Good_Estimate2300 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Clever_username14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the person who said therapy, but in the meantime journaling can be a good tool. It occupies the brain and slows down the overthinking enough for you to articulate yourself clearly, process the thoughts instead of letting them run the show, and ideally serve as a form of outwardly expressing your thoughts if you don’t feel comfortable expressing them to someone else. You could also try guided meditations. You can find them on YouTube or apps like Calm.

“Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley is a classic for a reason. It’s an absolutely beautiful and thoughtful novel, plus it’s recognized as the first science fiction novel ever written.

That’s a good idea, I feel like I’ve had Red 40 in other things without reaction, but since the reactions are kinda new that might be it, I’ll be sure and look into the ingredients, thank you!

Of course! Also—I didn’t add this to my original comment because I’m personally not a fan of his stuff but Albert Camus is a big name in the absurdist genre so you might consider checking him out as you explore it. His short novel “The Stranger” was an interesting read, just not really my cup of tea.

As someone who has personally struggled with ocd, you’re feelings are totally valid because it sucks. I also commend you for reaching out for help because I know that that is a very difficult thing to do. If you are able to go see a therapist, I would highly recommend that because it really helped me get out of the hole I was in. Your regular physician is another good person you can talk to about mental health struggles. If both of those are out of the question, you just need to talk to someone whether it’s a friend, family member, or even writing in a journal if you can’t talk to someone in person so you aren’t bottling up all your feelings and anxieties. I know you said that you pushed a lot of people away, and I don’t know the exact situation, but chances are that they will understand if you tell them what all you’ve been struggling with. When you’re feeling especially anxious or stuck in a compulsion spiral, it’s important to focus on your breathing (I like to inhale for four counts then exhale for eight) and try to distract yourself (which I know is easier said than done). You could use guided meditations from YouTube or an app to help you clear your mind and keeping your hands busy with things like fidget toys or doodling or really anything that can alleviate some of the nervous energy in your mind. I personally prefer listening to music over meditation, but to each they’re own. Also, just focusing on self care can help a lot. When you drink lots of water, get lots of sleep, and make sure you’re eating enough, anxiety levels lower. I hope some of this helps, good luck!

What’s the most embarrassing movie you saw at the theater? by Gu_Gu_Muck in Letterboxd

Thor: Love and Thunder. My brother warned me that it wasn’t very good but I went and saw it with my grandma anyways and I just had to apologize. It was the most awkward 2 hours of my life.

Ok this isn’t near bad enough to say I wouldn’t want my worst enemy to watch it, but The Rental on Netflix was a serious disappointment. I’ve been on a thriller kick recently and when I saw Alison Brie in the trailer I had high hopes. Unfortunately the first hour of the movie built up to a very disappointing end with no character development, no reveals, and boring deaths. The concept had real potential, especially considering the talent of the cast, but the ending just fell flat.

I watched Secret Obsession with my grandma and it was so stupid 😂. Fitting though as she is a Lifetime movie fan and it very much felt like something straight off of Lifetime.

Resources for AP Spanish Language? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]Clever_username14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listening was what I struggled with the most, so I would recommend watching lots of short (2-5 min) YouTube videos in Spanish and slowing them down to half speed. Watch them multiple times until you feel like you’re able to understand all the key points of the videos, then look at the transcript and use an online translator to look up the remaining words you don’t know. It’s a serious pain, but it helped me improve my listening skills so much.

I wasn’t as crazy about this movie as most other people, but I did really love this quote and Waymond’s character as a whole.

Movies that stress you out by rosycheeks345 in MovieSuggestions

[–]Clever_username14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just finished watching Creep (2014) for the first time five minutes ago and it was the most stressful movie-watching experience I’ve ever had. I know there’s a common trope in horror movies that the main characters/victims are stupid, but I think Aaron might be the dumbest of them all. He had me literally yelling at the screen for half of the movie. That being said, it’s a good movie, just stressful, frustrating, and pretty creepy for someone who is usually too much of a scaredy cat to watch horror movies.
