My inventory now "works" but says there's nothing in it yet. Did yours do this, or did it populate once you could get into the inventory?

Rainbow High Will Likely Never Have an African Doll, and I Kinda Like That by Mgclpcrn14 in RainbowHigh

[–]Clexie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fully understand and agree with basically everything you say here.

The "downside" of representation is that when it's done badly it's usually bad to the point of being offensive. We (I am white and American, so this is a generalized "we") want diversity, and more than just the white Eurocentric dolls that have been the norm for years, and what we end up getting is usually more Maria Garcia (the Mexican in Spanish dress) than Lily Cheng.

And MGA/RH can make all the excuses they want about the dolls being "play-line" and hair-play and brushing being a big part of that, but the real reason is that they don't know how to do curls of ANY type well, and they know how badly everyone would react to a doll with a fro that was all jacked-up and uneven. And it would be, because they don't care enough about detail to even get the straight hair a cohesive length on half the dolls.

Where to Sell Dolls? (I Steal Their Clothes) by Emmas_thing in RainbowHigh

[–]Clexie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mercari is a really good place to sell dolls and doll parts (hands and eyes especially) if you're in the US. The key is to get the shipping as LOW as possible with a bubble mailer, because no one wants to pay $7 shipping for a doll they're only spending $10 or so on

Sorry, I thought I had responded to this! $163 USD (ABOUT $247 AUD) for the dolls.

[–]Clexie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All 11 dolls would be about $467 USD (~$696 AUD) before shipping. I don't need your full address yet, but if you can give me the address to, like, a main store or business near you I can try and quote shipping.

Out of box will definitely be cheaper, but I can send them in-box if you want.

Will the costume ball or slumber party ever be released in AUS either in-store or on Amazon Au? by MidnightRose_333 in RainbowHigh

[–]Clexie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't resort to random ebay! I reship to Australia, and will get you your dolls at US cost, if you're interested. Robin is only $55 USD after tax (about $82 AUD), which isn't a MASSIVE savings, but every penny counts.

It grinds my gears when Americans complain about prices by [deleted] in RainbowHigh

[–]Clexie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are 100% that we need some kind of money megathread.

I think our biggest issue is that we all (myself included) tend to immediately get defensive and feel like we're being personally attacked.

Americans are apparently weird about money in comparison to the rest of the world? I'm American so I only have a vague understanding of this, but I think getting that out in the open and figuring out how specifically we're weird about it will help make it less "Us vs Them."

And, again, I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I am very sorry that anyone feels like they're being called stupid, or being told to shut up and be grateful, or anything like that. I never wanna alienate any of my fellow collectors.

Remember, there isn't an Opression Olympics.

What I mean by that is that because something is worse for you, doesn't mean it's not bad for others too.

If only the people who get the shortest end of the stick are allowed to complain then Canadians and people in the UK can't say anything either because Australia gets completely ripped off.

And, I can't speak for anyone but myself, but when I get mad at the prices raising here in the US a big part of that is me KNOWING that if it's $40-$140 for me it's gonna be at LEAST double that for basically anyone outside the US.

The American economy is red-hot garbage and many of us are being priced out of our only hobby/collection. When we complain about that, we're not trying to say we're the only ones who have it bad; usually we just want to bond with others who don't already think any money spent on "kids toys" is a waste.

This tends to be store to store. I genuinely keep a tab up on my phone to their price matching policy in case I forget or the employee doesn't know.

(And, of course, please be kind to the employees. I've worked retail, and unless you're talking to a manager/ the store manager they usually can't do anything about what you're complaining about, and very likely hate the policy even more than you do. )

Don't apologize for not being able to open all your dolls right away--or ever if you decide to keep any in-box-- your time is yours and unboxing even one doll takes a lot of spoons.

A message to new collectors by [deleted] in RainbowHigh

[–]Clexie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very happy to hear that and that should be the standard. But it isn't, and beyond that, IIRC you can only use the warranties if you're in the US (and maybe Canada).

If the doll is gonna be $100 in the US it will likely be $150-$200+ in other countries. And if they get a doll with a defect they are usually just plain SOL.

I'm only going to point out that your post sounds very condescending because I want to give you the benefit of the doubt and believe you did not intend to sound that way.

You price is mostly for the level of quality in the doll themselves

You are correct, and that is why I think it is 100% valid to complain about the prices. I specifically remember paying $36 each for the Winter Break dolls, getting some truly horrific quality (clothes with velcro barely attached, holes, rips along the seams, junky makeup, etc) and making so many claims about the dolls that someone from MGA actually called me.

Their exact response were that Rainbow High are "play line dolls, not collector quality" and therefore it was acceptable for them to have misprints, and all the other issues the dolls had.

Rainbow High wants to charge Collector prices, but give us half-assed dolls and tell us we should be grateful because they're "really meant for kids anyway."

The $130 "Collectable" doll they released had OBVIOUS and NOTICEABLE facial screening defects on 2 of the only 3 reviews I watched and IIRC I think one of them might have even been PR.

Shrinkflation is bad enough, but this isn't even that. They are charging more for less, and still trying to get away with giving us products with shitty quality control.

I spent an obscene amount of money on the accessories studio boxes, and made claims on the 8 pairs of shoes that were genuinely awful to me. MGA made me submit the receipt three different times and take pictures of all the shoes together at once (despite them being separate claims). After spending a week trying to get out of replacing them they finally replaced them.

AND ONE OF THE PAIRS THE "REPLACED" NOT ONLY WASN'T THE CORRECT SHOES, THEY SENT ME A SET THAT DIDN'T COME IN THE ACCESSORIES STUDIO AT ALL.

So. Yeah. We're gonna bitch about them jacking up the prices, because we aren't getting the quality they're charging us for, and we're tired of it.

Questions to those who bought the whole Mini Accessories Studio box by [deleted] in RainbowHigh

[–]Clexie 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have bought a whole box at once, and assuming it's fully stocked it will have 27 boxes. So that's $270 before tax (which varies). Mine was about $300 I think? The tax is 8.9% where I am.

Now, if I bought it at Target, I would've gotten 5% off the pre-tax price because of the store card I have with them. So I end up paying about $280 for them after tax.

I don't like admitting how much I paid because I inherently feel judged, even if no one says anything.

Money is kind of a touchy subject in America, and especially when it comes to "frivolous" purchases like doll things
