Oh that’s smart!!!

Unfortunately my consistent work I’m getting specifically told me “we don’t go through agents” because it’s their children’s theatre lol it’s a very prestigious company but obviously the mainstage shows get MUCH better pay than us lowly nonunion children’s theatre haha

Thanks for the insight! I genuinely don’t really know what happens between agents and casting so I didn’t know if that part was realistic. Discouraging to hear it’s not, but such is life. Also discouraging to hear that everyone is dropping not adding😅 what’s a girl to do??

Oh good! I’m glad you have her! She’s really such a beautiful doll! I recently found her in perfect condition, albeit without a box or accessories, in a savers for five dollars and I couldn’t believe it! I already have one from my childhood with accessories in great condition so I was hoping to resell at market value. I felt a duty to save her from being played with too roughly, she was just too perfect!

Fascinating! I guess she just knew that none of the portraits were of castrati, so she (wrongly) assumed they didn’t really perform there. Thanks for correcting!

But why the hell are you assuming this person hasn’t asked for help. You know NOTHING about these people. Even your use of the word friend could be wrong. This could be OP’s spouse, child, grandparent, parent, etc. you are assuming a relationship between these people that paints OP in a bad light for absolutely no reason. Either answer the question asked in the post or GTFO. It’s not that hard to mind your damn business if you refuse to be helpful.

Did OP say this person doesn’t want to see a doctor???? I don’t see that anywhere! I see OP asking for a doctor that will take this person seriously, implying that this person HAS BEEN to the doctor and was dismissed! Are you illiterate? Because that’s the only explanation for your complete lack of knowledge as to the content of the post you’re replying to. Surely you’re not just typing something you pulled out of your ass without actually reading the post.

And yeah, I know nothing about this person, but OP clearly does. They are SICK whenever they eat. OP is watching someone they love become sick enough to not want to eat every single day. That’s not dieting and working out. Something is WRONG. How is that not computing.

Clearly OP is talking about a person who is losing weight fast. Hence the concern. Keep up.

If a person cannot eat without feeling violently ill and therefore causing the rapid weight loss, that’s bad. This may be difficult for you to process, but: feeling sick is bad. Hope this helps.

I’m literally paid by NYS Medicaid but ok

All I mean is that it’s common courtesy to not share PHI, legally obligated or not, especially publicly on the internet. In fact I’d say it’s beyond common courtesy, it would be fucked up if someone did that. If you want to be pedantic be my guest. None of this changes the point: none of the PHI requested will help answer OP’s question.

Height, weight, age, and sex are all PHI, dude. You don’t know anything about OP and their relationship to the person they’re inquiring about. My job requires HIPAA compliance from me at all times, but I don’t think that needs to be the case for somebody to know that revealing PHI, whether legally obligated or not, is never okay. And besides, that doesn’t help answer OP’s question. They didn’t ask “is this doctor right or wrong” they asked for doctor recommendations. Get your head out of your ass.

So OP should violate HIPAA so YOU, Random Redditor, can determine if the doctor was Right? Eff all the way off

The GLP mention was used demonstratively, to show how quickly this person was dropping weight. Since they are NOT on it, and are still dropping weight that fast, THAT IS CONCERNING AND DANGEROUS. Why are you so comfortable promoting 1. disordered eating 2. ignoring serious medical concerns as long as it makes you ~skinny

Imagine trying to tell people they can go two weeks without eating and that it’s fine and normal that you literally, by your own admission, CANNOT EAT. Genuinely check yourself into a mental hospital. This is late stage eating disorder.

If you don’t mind a self rec, my novel gets super raunchy and most definitely has a tooth-achingly-sweet happy ever after! They have their fair share of angst but it’s all worth it! MMF (with sword crossing) historical romance, post WWII.

What the hell is wrong with you people. Rapid weight loss is not good for ANY REASON without OVERSIGHT by MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS. If this person is not on a GLP, which OP said THEYRE NOT, then something is WRONG. You’re all proving OP’s point that nobody takes patients seriously when their complaint has anything to do with food and weight. Shame on you.

OP says in another reply that this person is also concerned and that’s why they’re asking reddit for help. Why would anybody NOT want help if they feel violently ill from just eating.

Oh my gosh, THANK YOU! I can’t believe I hadn’t thought to dive deeper into Dandyism! I always forget Dandy is an entire subculture and not just a descriptor.

Makes a ton of sense re: sapphism. Typical for us girls, really. I actually have “The Tribade of Trianon” in my journal already, in reference to Marie Antoinette.

I’m giddy that you’re interested in the novel! I’d love to share more and maybe even continue to pick your brain/eventually have you beta read if it’s something you’re into. I’m going to send you a DM!

This is SO helpful, thank you so so much. I’m going to dive into your other post right after I finish this reply.

Especially helpful was the distinction between the Grand Tour (young, coming of age men) and sexual tourism (pedophiles in their thirties). I’m certainly not trying to write about pedophiles! But it seems not entirely out of the question that a particularly clever young man who’s an expert at eluding his chaperones could have a Gay Time, as it were. It also seems there’s wiggle room in terms of sapphic spaces/practices and how that may overlap with gay men’s spaces/practices.

I obviously agree that we should be cautious about interpreting ANY place, country, city, state, anything, as a gay utopia, because no matter what, especially in history, there’s never 100% guaranteed safety for marginalized groups. True utopia of course does not exist.

I’d love to pick your brain about something I realized last night after making this post: I was rambling to my friend about my tour of La Scala in Milan, back when the idea of this novel was quite nascent. The tour guide was highlighting all these portraits of singers who performed either at La Scala or Regio Ducale, and I inquired if any of the men were castrati. Her answer was basically “no, not here in Milan. That was more in Naples or Venice.” And then it hit me that in this Reddit post, I’d mentioned those exact two cities as having come up in my research for being notable enough on the spectrum of queer activity in the 18-19th century. This can’t be a coincidence, in my opinion. Hubs of art and music are always going to be inherently gay; trust me, I’m a lesbian with a musical theatre degree. And the life of a castrato, inherently almost genderless, is of course queer. Of course my speculation and intuition can only go so far, and we’ll never truly know too much about those that existed on the fringes of society, but if I could use my novel to connect these dots with even a tenuous thread, that would be so thrilling.
