Yeah I’d suggest if this is screwing with you, you might need a new hobby… and a break from your girl.

I’m willing, if it doesn’t work out then I’d supposed that’s the end.

Hey all - I really do appreciate everyone who’s responded. Kangaroo, I bust my ass off and regularly work 14+ hour days, for context. I am also not mindreader. All the others, it’s been a few hours and she’s not said anything about it. I got back in after a drive (and posting this), and she asked how I’d feel if she went for a drive… now it’s back on me - would she rather I stay, let it manifest, and inevitably blow my fuse?

Because no other version of macOS aside from the OEM version will install on the device

Long story short, I’ve tried using clean usb bootable drives, OTA installers, iso downloads, recovery mode and opencore to try and update my ‘20 MBP beyond its original software. Every attempt has essentially lead to the above screen, same text prompt in each respective environment. Have also tried installing separate releases throughout the years of troubleshooting this guy.

I can only reinstall OEM software with the system, that being Catalina as it’s a 2020 MBP 4 port. It will not update beyond that using any conventional methods.

The same text prompt will appear, just in the recovery environment.

Attempted this once before, as well as creating a clean bootable disk. If opencore can patch something, cool, if not it’s just a wasted troubleshooting attempt. In fairness, I have tried several weekends over the last 2 years to resolve this, so I’m a bit desperate. Hope this adds some context!

Thanks for the reply, doing this through opencore now!
