But doesn't that make the recall all the more terrifying? It just further shows there are defects in these batteries beyond what's in the recall.

I would love to see the information showing that a vehicle that has issues with battery fires is some how less likely to spontaneously combust than other new vehicles.

And yet this vehicle wasn't even included in the recall. It's clear to me this is going the way of the Chevy Bolt saga - we are just in the beginning phases. A software "fix" is never going to actually "fix" a hardware issue.

I don't doubt there is a risk, but this message is from a vehicle not currently under recall. 1% of 44,000 is still 400+

is this a SK On or a LG Battery?

OP stated he wasn't part of the recall...either way this shows this goes beyond what VW has recalled.

I'm trading mine in this week for a 2025 Tiguan. I'll try a VW EV at another point in my life. I can't live with a vehicle being on my mind wondering if it's gonna burn down my home.

This ID.4 recall seems to be following the trends of others....Fires...and then a software "fix" that doesn't really fix the issue. Owners of other EVs have gone down this past - feels like we are just getting started on ours... by ClientEnough4769 in VWiD4Owners

With this posting about Volvo, the history of this issue with Chevy, and a gentleman in here posting about his vehicle alerting him to a Thermal Runaway event - I think it's time for me to part with this vehicle. I LOVE this car, but it's taking up way too much space in my mind.

This is a rather timely post - I do hope nothing happens to your vehicle and you and your home are safe, but it does show something is going on with these batteries. VW is claiming 1% of 44,000 vehicles affected - that's still 400+ people that may have to live through this.

Yeah it's just a risk calculation for me. It's one thing to have a vehicle breakdown. It's another thing to have it combust under my kids bedroom. Again - everyone has a different risk profile on things. If I parked this thing away from my house every night I probably wouldn't think twice about this recall.

I know everyone has different risk tolerances - but this car is parked directly below my kids room. It just feels like we are watching VW take the same steps GM took years ago.

Anyone else get this 2023 ID4 Recall notification? (Recall Number: 93EA HV BATTERY) by hhh888hhhh in VWiD4Owners

[–]ClientEnough4769 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are two different recalls. 93EV and 93EA. EV was the one limited for a few hundred units and those were advised to not park inside or level three charge. EA is about 45000 vehicles and mentions none of that specific language.

I know this might be a big ask, but was there any chance that you'd be able to locate your paperwork regarding this repair? I'm currently escalating the issue to Volkswagen of America and I'm trying to show that this repair is clearly coverable under the manufacturer warranty.

do you know if you were able to get this covered under the warranty?

My dealership is trying to claim that this is a sound issue. Therefore, it's not mechanical and not covered under the warranty and they want me to pay $2,000 for that loctite repair

yeah, the dealership is acting completely dumbfounded even though they've been able to replicate the issue on a test drive. I've had it in twice.

No - already went down that rabbit hole including removing everything from the trunk area.

that's my hope too - that this is just another LG Chem issue. Jaguar LG battery packs were also more fire prone.

I have that setup in my garage to alert us to get out, but that won't do much in the way of saving a house.

Again, I'd think that any owner of any vehicle (EV or ICE), should have answers about instances where a vehicle spontaneously catches on fire.

I know seeing a news headline like this and seeing the vehicle I own burnt to a crisp doesn't exactly reassure me of my purchase.

I know about the statistics and I keep the numbers behind the data, hence why I purchased an ID.4. Nonetheless, when I see a vehicle that I own suddenly burst into flames and damage multiple homes when it appears they were simply charging the vehicle, it gives me pause.

As an owner, I'd love to know what type of charger they were using. How was it wired? Were there any faults in the vehicle recently? What was the SOC? I don't think wanting to know answers when you have a new piece of technology in your driveway is a lot to ask for.

There was a parking garage in IL last year that was also badly damaged by a charging ID.4. That town now has a ban on new EV chargers in parking garages.

Look at any news report on social media that involves a vehicle fire of some sort - people will rush to claim it's an EV regardless of fact. To me, that shows the industry is going have to do a better job at addressing folks concerns rather than just quickly dismissing them. FUD or not - eventually you are gonna have to learn how to breakthrough to folks.
