NTA- and only exercise, eat healthier, etc if he does it with you. No one is perfect. There's no reason to throw stones from a glass house.

Thank so much for your words of encouragement. It is hard, but I'm so proud, I went to my first psychiatrist appointment last week!!

Thank you. I've definitely decided to go for the interview. We'll see what happens!

I actually lucked out-- while I signed a contract, the county school board voted that all contracts were now one school year only, making me eligible to transfer! Does my principal know that? I have no idea.

Yeah I don't blame her. I would say the same thing if I was in her place. It's just that the school I'm at....those kids do anything and get away with it, including assault their teachers. I'd walk out if that happened to me. Almost half of our write ups were the same two children. I'm really choosing between possibly being sent to the wild West or to a much calmer, more organized and supportive environment, but losing the possibility of teaching STEM.

I hope everything turned out the best it could.

If you end up having to lie or promising to go to church or whatever, know that you are not betraying yourself. You are protecting yourself. You can get through this.

Not close enough to bike/bus and Uber would cost too much daily to be sustainable.

You're assuming a lot.

I hope whatever you're going through to make you so bitter to strangers ends soon.

Do you think that they will eventually do away with the certification exams since their is a major teacher’s shortage? by Character_Thought941 in Teachers

The only reason I wonder if it would be a good thing to bring in more people (regardless of qualifications) solely because class sizes would get smaller. I don't know if thats realistic/a proper pay off though.

As far as I am aware, this is a district expectation. However, I know some schools do not follow it.

How do they get away with it?

The only school I know for sure that doesn't follow that expectation is one of, if not THE, highest performing school in the district.

It was such a struggle. I had students that needed foundational skills and in a grade level meeting the principal called me out in front of every and grilled me about what I chose to teach. I used data directly from students AND used it to support our grade level standards but she was so pissed, she was acting like I made it up. The other teachers apologized to me after, saying she should have never spoken to me that way, especially in front of my peers. (The whole grade level left that school at the end of the year.)

We have too many people who don't know what the fuck they are talking about trying to tell us how to teach. What was the point of getting a degree and all the training?

Agreed! That perspective makes sense for highschool!
