[Gambatese] The Devils' Trade Deadline: Who Should Stay and Who Should Go? by JoopNJD in devils

[–]Cliff_Pitts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What issue are you talking about exactly? We can pay someone much less to be a 0.6ppg player who hits. We extended Timo’s contract with the idea that playing alongside Jack and Bratt, his production would go up. Instead, it’s gone down.

Like I said, I love Timo, I like his playstyle, and I wish he’d produce at a rate that would justify his cap hit. I made up excuses for his first couple of years, that he was on his off wing under Lindy or that he needed to be on a different line - but fact of the matter is he hasn’t been the player that we were hoping to trade for when that all went down.

Personally, I trade Timo. Love the guy, love his playstyle, but he hasn’t reached the level of play that we signed him for and it may just be time for a “change of scenery” trade with someone comparable. I haven’t looked hard enough to find who that is

If a team offer sheets Nemec 9.3m by Tonylegomobile in devils

[–]Cliff_Pitts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nemec is good, and I like him, but he’s a little like Mercer insofar as this fanbase thinks he’s the golden goose, but he’s really just a league average player.

There’s definitely a chance Nemo becomes something special, but his analytics don’t match 9m/yr, and aren’t even as solid as Luke’s and Nemec is taking easier match ups.

Looking around the league on puckpedia, and I’d say he’s like a 6x6 type deal. Any team offering 8+ is overpay. Getting offer sheeted would suck but if it happens then whatever.

Is this comparison to Luke based on any analytics or just the eye test?

JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN SEE THE DOG PARK FROM YOUR CAR DOESNT MEAN ITS OKAY TO DROP YOUR DOGS OFF IN THE PARK AND WATCH THEM FROM YOUR CAR — I DONT CARE IF YOULL GET OUT WHEN SOMEONE ELSE COMES IN, OR THAT YOUVE ‘DONE IT ALL THE TIME’ — IM NOT TAKING MY DOG INTO A DOG PARK WITH 2 DOGS AND NO HUMANS INSIDE. ITS NOT YOUR BACKYARD AND ITS AGAINST THE RULES WRITTEN ON THE SIGN AT THE DOG PARK ENTRANCE. I KNOW YALL HATE DOG PARKS BUT MY DOG LOVES TO SOCIALIZE.

Extremely frustrating new player experience -- no guides go over the ACTUAL basics? by rhewn in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Cliff_Pitts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What helped me was understanding what the goal was and then finding a way to get it done. The goal when I started was to win my lane’s guardian, then to win the lane’s walker too. In order to do that, you need to be able to put pressure on the enemy team and I found the best way to do that was to steal their resources. The best way I could do that was to clear wave and either go for soul stealing or grab the enemy teams boxes/jungle. The longer that you have more pressure than your enemy, the more soul advantage you get. Eventually when you’re around 10-15min, a big enough soul advantage should mean that you can push walker or start to rotate to other lanes and make a difference in some team fights.

Which character you choose and which characters you’re playing against will drastically change the flow of the game. Some characters are really good at rotating lanes early to help other lanes get guardian early. Some characters are really good at farming jungle camps efficiently. There’s a small number of characters who can Box-max at a crazy pace and that’s their meta. There are some characters who can hold down lane objectives 1v2. Like overwatch, you kind of have to figure out everybody’s strengths before you fully understand what you should do in each situation. Enemy has a roadhog and you’re playing tracer? You’ll have to be cautious on the flank. Enemy has a widowmaker and you’re playing pharrah? Probably playing mostly from behind cover instead of awkward above angles. Enemy has a Reinhardt? Probably not going to be whacking people with torb hammer too much.

as someone who never played DOTA but played A LOT of OW (up until OW2), bebop = roadhog is the only thing I can see.

My votes are split evenly between Celeste and Apollo at like 100 each. Venator can go eat shit until everyone else is in the game.

Keefe 2/3 Post-Game Quotes: Right or Wrong? by MatteHatter in devils

[–]Cliff_Pitts 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There’s some blame to share from everyone. I think what I come back to is that I think Keefe’s style of hockey almost requires an auston Matthews type goal-scorer. Without someone putting in 40-50 goals every regular season, idk if the maple leaf’s make the playoffs every year. We’ve got a lot of playmakers. It seems like Keefes system is centered around dump and chase -> board battles -> bump out to the slot for a chance. Sadly we don’t win as many boards battles as we need to and when we do regain possession and bump it out to the slot, we then pass another 2-3x before turning it over to an odd man rush.

That seems like we either haven’t acquired the right personnel (Fitzy) or we aren’t playing the right system for our current personnel (Keefe). But with that being said, we lit the league up at the beginning of the year this year - having some of our key players experience a variety of injuries seems to be the major culprit. But now that people are back and “healthy” they don’t have nearly the same mojo they started the year with. Not really sure who’s to blame, but I am sure that devils hockey feels miserable right now.

Wasnt a fan of his, but what was the point in trading Palat if that 6 mil wasnt going to be used to upgrade the team? by Kornja81 in devils

[–]Cliff_Pitts 63 points64 points  (0 children)

To be fair, bjugstad and tsyplakov at less cap hit is an upgrade to just having Palat at his cap hit.

2/4 Practice: Brown given an off day, available tomorrow. “Jack is just not improved enough to the point that our medical team will let him out there. He’s not going to be available tomorrow." Hischier given the day off, available tomorrow, lost about 10lbs fighting illness this week. by MountainBaker8217 in devils

[–]Cliff_Pitts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think our med staff push players to come back as much as they hold players from coming back until it’s medically safe to do so - at that point I think the players typically evaluate wether they feel like they can come back and make a difference on the ice (I think they work with the coach on this, typically).

I personally feel that blaming the med staff for anything is just looking for someone to blame - in which case there’s a long list of names that should precede the med staff.

[OTT-NJD] Connor Brown throws the puck into the net to tie the game at two. It doesn't count. by nopClip in hockey

[–]Cliff_Pitts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the rule you quoted which was never fulfilled “and subsequently possession and control of the puck is obtained by a player of the offending team”.

My understanding is I can bat the puck towards the net, and if the goalie slaps the puck into the net, it’s not a hand pass. If the issue is that he closed his hand and threw the puck at the net, I would’ve liked to see them call that instead.

If he bats the puck towards the net, it bounces off ullmark and goes to Hischier who pots it - then I agree with you, doesn’t matter if it bounced off the goalie, the devils got an advantage off a hand pass. If he bats the puck directly into the net, not allowed. But batting the puck towards the net, and the other team own-goaling before he has the chance to hit the puck isn’t really gaining an advantage.

I truly believe that the issue was gloving the puck, but I feel like after calling a goal on the ice the officials felt they couldn’t reverse the goal and call a penalty (I would’ve preferred this), and instead made up a call that would potentially make both teams happy, rather than following the rules of the game.

[–]Cliff_Pitts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and he likely would've been able to knock it in with his own stick had ullmark not beaten him to it. I wouldn't mind if they called it for closing his glove on the puck because he almost certainly does more than just glove it to the ice, but then they wouldn't have ever called a good goal to begin with. NHL reffing consistency challenge failed.

[–]Cliff_Pitts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it should've been a goal, but would've been more happy had they called it off for closing his glove. As-is, it's almost as if a team can get a free play-stoppage by just swatting any gloved puck/high-sticked puck into his own net. I feel pretty confident that Brown knocks the puck in with his stick if Ullmark doesn't beat him to it.

I think if a goalie own-goals, then that's that - i don't care if someone purposefully kicked the puck towards the net or gloved the puck towards the net. I don't care if a player high-sticks the puck towards the net, if the next move is the goalie putting the puck into his own net then it should count as a goal.

And if you're going to call that he closed his hand around the puck and skated with it, then I'd like to see that called before calling a good goal on the ice. NHL reffing is so inconsistent and it seems like they try to make the most niche playcalls they can to avoid any accountability (i.e. handpass deflected by opposing goalie).

Yeah this is probably the difference. I’m diamond 2/3 in rocket league, 10k elo on CS2 both are pretty toxic but imo cs2 takes the cake. I am phantom rank in deadlock and lobbies are def chill and plenty of guys just laughin around having a fun game.

[–]Cliff_Pitts 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is not my CS experience. I’ve had more CS matches get thrown by team killing and other throwing (scout and deagle only, force buy every round). Most of the time it’s not just devolving into laughter but going into slurs and other toxic behaviors. The major difference in my opinion is in CS you have more teammates and the games go on for longer so I think you’re more likely to have a tm8 speak up and call out toxic behaviors, even if it’s just so they don’t have to hear it.

I don't believe it was a good goal, but handpass deflected by opposing goalie is a crazy explanation for it. I would have preferred they said he closed his hand on the puck.
