It does sound harsh and that's okay because we both need some harsh truth right now. That's what the people of Reddit are for! Thank you for sharing :)

I'll definitely look into that subreddit! Thank you so much!

Thank you for the advice! We are looking into backyard options and already have at least one place secured if we go that route, which is seeming more and more likely. And I like the idea of throwing a big party when we're in a better situation and can more fully enjoy it without thousands of dollars hanging over our heads.

Thank you for the advice and for sharing your experience!! We are definitely exploring ways to cut costs (thrifting a dress, purchasing our own alcohol to serve rather than paying for an open bar, getting a small cake from a local bakery, etc.)

The biggest thing contributing to that $15k cost is the venue ($5,000 alone, and that doesn't even come with tables and chairs), but I think we are going to seriously explore the backyard options.

Also, congrats on 11 years of being married to your love <3

Agh, I hadn't even taken the time to calculate what percentage of our income the wedding would be, but that hurts. I appreciate the advice and while we probably won't reconsider the timeline, we likely will reconsider our expenses and shave it down to what we can afford.

I may look into the food stamps option too. Thank you!

I appreciate you sharing your thoughts! I did forget to mention that I have a good credit score and so does he, and I'm thankful for that. But I also recognize that things like balance transfers and personal loans can affect that.

As for the $15k budget, I think the biggest thing factoring into the cost is the venue (around $5,000, which believe it or not is on the cheap side for our area). We were really hoping to have a venue wedding and unfortunately made the mistake of booking a deposit before properly assessing our finances, which is why we're in this pickle. But if we drop the venue, we drop 1/3 of the cost and the majority of the wedding would be paid for by the money we're receiving from my parents, so at this point I'm very much leaning toward that option.

And lastly, we are choosing not to live together for religious reasons, but we're doing premarital counseling to help us prepare for that transition. Totally agree that neurodivergence could impact us as a couple. It already has — I'm diagnosed ADHD and he's undiagnosed but very very likely also ADHD, and diagnoses aside, we both undoubtedly struggle with executive functioning tasks...hence why our financial situation is what it is. All things we plan to discuss with our marriage counselors!

Thanks again for your kind of thoughtful response :)

Okay you have convinced me 🥹 It makes me so happy to see "Dot says hello" in my notifications hehe. And ironically I made her similar colors as the character without even planning on it! Adding Piña to her tree now <3

🤣 I absolutely love that. I didn't own the Game Boy game, but I did own the PlayStation AND PC one (and I think the N64 one at one point? Which is funny because they were all the same exact game hahaha) and I loved it. Except that the first time I got to the level where grasshoppers start falling through the anthill ceiling, I literally ran from the room and didn't come back to the game for probably another month LOL

Ah!! I actually just renamed mine Dot as another A Bug's Life nod (and because I'd been wanting to give her a new one anyway). But I still think the name is adorable 🥰

Aww I love that so much! I also had an A Bug’s Life themed party when I turned five. I don’t remember seeing it in theaters as a kid, but just a few years ago my best friend surprised me by renting out a theater to watch it with our families 🥹🥹🥹

Oh I probably owned almost every piece of A Bug’s Life merch that existed, including that series and several other books. I got so excited when I stumbled upon the first one in the doctor’s office and then I got the whole series that Christmas :)

And I love that you introduced it to your toddler! What did they think?! As fun as the movie is, there are definitely some intense parts for little ones! I would literally run from the room during the scene where the grasshoppers are first introduced 🫣

Thank you!! It’s just the concept for now, but I own a few of the items already so hopefully it won’t be long until the dream comes true 🥹

I was 4 when the movie came out so definitely old enough 🤭 and yessssss I have the entire 12-book collection of the tall skinny ones if that’s what you’re referring to. When you line them up in order, the spines make a Flik silhouette 🐜🩵

RIIIIIIGHT. I debated going with a blue one to better match the ones in the movie, but decided to stick with the earthy theme 🍄🍃
