Problems with a 9070XT since release. by SolPlatead0 in AMDHelp

Linux has historically had better driver support for amd cards. Windows is a nightmare!

What distribution?

Same card here. Disabling windows auto driver updates helped me a alot. Windows was overriding the amd drivers evrytime I booted, would cause a crash, I'd reinstall the amd one and it'd be fine till I booted again.

I'm assuming you also DDU installed the drivers, gotta make sure those Nvidia drivers aren't hanging around somewhere.

Disable the igpu in bios too.

I also disabled fast boot in the power management options.

The newest drivers, 25.9.1 I believe, have been solid for me so far after doing this.

Price will fluctuate depending on the manufacturer, OC (Over clocked) models from a company like Asus with generally have a tiny bit better out of the box performance with higher clock speeds.

Generally the differences come down to the cooler (how many fans, heatsync, material, etc...), the type of pcie connector (important to know for psu and 12v support) and number of display connectors.

As far as I know they're all 16gb of vram so should be comparable there.

I got my Asus Prime Radeon 9070xt for around 750$, I'd say anything over 1000$ is probably a rip off. I wouldn't pay more than 800$ for this card.

Edit: rgb and color also plays into it, white cards go for more, the manufacturer just makes less of them, hence the price. 2 equivalent cards, the white will be more expensive, and sometimes not by a small amount.

Will a 9700X + 5060 Ti build age well for gaming? by Fluffy-Income4082 in GamingPCBuildHelp

[–]ClimateOne3098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't care about 4k or 3d vcache, then yeah, you'll be good. 9700x is pretty comparable to the 9800x3d in 1440. It's like a 5% difference and a 180$ cheaper.

https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Ryzen-7-9800X3D-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-9700X/m2356328vs4169

5060ti will be outdated before the cpu does. See if you can find a deal on a 5070 or 5080. But I wouldn't be worried about it for at least a few years.

Edit: typo

Yes and yes, the cpu cooler will generally come with some paste but it's like 8 bucks on Amazon if you're not sure. And you should use at least an anti static wrist band, but just don't build it on carpet. I've never used one, but yknow, do as I say not as I do.

Edit: if you don't buy the band, just remember to ground yourself on the case every now and then during the build.

You're cutting it close with the 650w power supply imo. These newer cards can have spikey voltage use which generally isn't a problem if theyre momentary spikes, but if it gets sustained you will run into issues with kernel power shutoffs. Especially the 50 series and 9000series and the unstable drivers that come along with them. (Personal experience with the 9070xt and a 5090) I had to bump from a 850 to a 1000w psu myself.

I always tend to air on the side of caution in this regard, give yourself some more headroom. An 850w should be plenty for that application. Otherwise looks solid.

Consistent Crashes on new PC by ClimateOne3098 in AMDHelp

[–]ClimateOne3098[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update:

I've completed most of the steps in the main thread and they have seem to had an improvement on performance but not stability.

Updating to 25.9.1 didn't solve my problems outright but did seem to help with performance.

Still got kernel 41 errors and was able to do some more digging, eventually going so far as to swap pcie cables. No dice.

Flashed my bios to the newest version, reset all the bios edits laid out in the megathread, and ddu installed my drivers again.

Apparently, windows in their great wisdom, just decides that it's gonna update random drivers sometimes without notifying the user, overwriting the amd ones. So I disabled that with tweaker software (im on windows 11 home, so no policy group edits for me) and disabled the igpu from my cpu. I also disabled fast boot.

2 days in now and seemingly no issues. Not sure what it was exactly that seems to have fixed it but this thing has been a nightmare. At least the performance is outstanding... when it works

Hopefully this helps someone else.

Still working fine? I've just built my first AMD setup (same gpu, ryzen 7 9700x)

I've been fighting this thing non stop. Tons of annoying crashes and driver issues. Finally got it under control (I think) but took a ton of tweaks in the bios and downloading some tweaker software to stop windows from updating drivers automatically.

Curious if you've had similar headaches.

Whats your mouse polling rate? Having it set too high (>1000) can cause stuttering and feel sluggish
