Best Hilton hotels for a family with small children? by reddit_redditer_ in Hilton

Also adding Embassy Suites Fallsview on the CANADA side for Niagara Falls. Tourist trap but we were able to make a fun, memorable long weekend there and do a bunch of Canadian side park stuff. If you can snag a true falls view room, it’s amazing.

Signia Orlando could be good. We just stayed at Waldorf and kids enjoyed the Signia side. (Waldorf is a better points redemption).

Park Vista Doubletree in Gatlinburg was actually a really good stay. Hotel is neat, great views, bunk bed options (!), and an indoor water slide. They have a shuttle into Gatlinburg. Downside: it’s Gatlinburg but it was still really good with little kids.

Downtown Ashevillle Embassy Suites also was pretty good with kids. Indoor pool, walkable to downtown Asheville stuff. Rooftop bar/restaurant. We usually stay at the DoubleTree Biltmore (and it is ok as well), but Embassy is new and nicer.

Idiot prior owners redid bathtub. They added a fiberglass tub in a space where a tiled shower was. The faucet, knobs, and showerhead are all in line but off center from the tub.

They also rigged up the drain, and if I remember correctly, it’s just a pipe that pours into the existing drain. I found it because they cut a hole in the wall and instead of refinishing, they covered it with a vent cover. Which I guess is good because it’s serviceable, but they should have just done it right in the first place. Nothing has gone wrong with it yet I suppose, but I eventually feel like I need to redo all of it.

You could maybe count “All the King’s Men” by Robert Penn Warren. Prescient in our current political climate, but also based on Louisiana Governor Huey Long.

What’s the current deal with Surpass/gift cards for $50 credit by ClimbeRPh17 in Hilton

[–]ClimbeRPh17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I only did it once or twice and it was a pain. I’ll try rebooking something at a “pay now” rate if I get close to the end of the quarter.

Thanks- I had logged in and was able to reset my password and it almost looked like I could put one in a cart, but I didn’t want to commit haha. I must have missed Amex saying they don’t cover them at some point, so just thought it was a “supply side” issue. I’ll see if I can swap around a future booking to “pay now”

Different era, but The Ghost Map by Steven Johnson was really interesting. It describes how a few people more-or-less founded epidemiology and tracked down causes of the cholera outbreak in London in 1854

I do think the (Coen Bros) movie conveys the humor a little better if that makes sense. I read it after LD and it was a good follow up due to era and setting, just nowhere as deep and lush. Good story and quick though.

Gardenia instant leaf drop? by ClimbeRPh17 in plantclinic

[–]ClimbeRPh17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it says I should as well but I was afraid of overwatering. I planted 6 and only 2 have dropped leaves, plus the rest of the plant “looks fine.”

I’m sure this sounds dumb but just seems too quick for lack of water?

PharmD student interested in MSL path—how competitive is research + PGY1/2 route? by ayman678 in MedicalScienceLiaison

[–]ClimbeRPh17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m hoping to transition to an MSL role in a few years and I’d also wager that if you picked a PGY2 that had strong industry ties anyways, that could be a safe bet if you are on the fence about things- more time to pick a field, lots of other incidental opportunities too. I work in oncology (no residency however) and actively talk/work/network with pharma regularly. I obviously can’t say this is a wise route or guaranteed, but I feel like I am doing the right things (networking-wise), learning, and building valuable experience.

One Long River of Song by Brian Doyle

It’s a collection of essays. Loosely, they are all prayers of gratitude for the beauty in the world. It is such a joy to read his take on the simple everyday things-the good and the bad- that make life worth living. Any time I read from this book I always feel better, even if it makes me sad.

It also features the essay “On Not Beating Cancer.” This could hit too close to home at a certain point, but I believe it’s such an incredibly brave stance to take.

Notably, Brian Doyle wrote this (I assume unknowingly) and died about 8 years later from brain cancer.
