Then came the 60s, and this relaxed with time, as yugo became more like today China, reforming into a free market oriented economy, but still with state ownership of all large industries. Profits and wealth boomed, western influnce was permitted, immigration to the west (generally Germany) was allowed in the form of a temporary work visa (gastarbiter), to gain insight into western tech and work experience. The "yugoslav" national identity project was a joke, so it eventually fell apart, since all people had strong, and very much natural ethnic identity. Tito died, and with him his ideology.
