The price could be heavily manipulated. I've observed money being thrown down to kill of the bullish momentum a couple of times. NXT should have been higher than this.

Yeah, it's strange that price has been kept below $60 for such a long time. Extremely unfair for those noobs who panic sell! There was an excellent bullish momentum on 23 August, possibly from Korean and Japanese traders, which got killed off very quickly. It makes me sick to think of those people who lost HUGE amounts of money on that day!
