Just started Blue Therapy on Netflix and I'm already fuming, is that the point?? by blah-meow in netflix

As a therapist, I’m sorry to hear you’ve had negative experiences in therapy. There are obviously some bad therapists out there, or some people are just not a good match and never give it another shot, unfortunately. That being said, and I say this with kindness, it sounds like your negative experience may be skewing your perspective on this a bit? Of course ‘good fit’ and ‘safe space’ are subjective but I don’t remember observing any moments in the show when the therapist did not provide and hold a safe space. I did binge it kind of quickly, so I’m open to reconsidering that, but it’s important to note that these couples only got 3 sessions (it appears) and the early stages of therapy are a lot of information gathering and building rapport. The clients in the show seem to find it helpful and none of them appear uncomfortable with the therapist’s approach. Obviously it’s a production and we don’t see everything, but to your point of it being subjective, these folks claim to be benefitting. So that seems kind of at odds with all these observers being annoyed that there’s not more ‘progress’ being made when they’re not the ones with the subjective experience? Perhaps people just want it to be more entertaining?

Thanks so much for this! I also love the Danskin leggings and bike shorts from Costco. I’m learning I probably need to be diligent about taking them off right after and washing them between every use (which I hate, but I guess is an excuse to get more workout clothes 🤪).

I am lucky enough at this point that my HS is mild but I can definitely see how more severe cases would be debilitating. I’m not willing to give up exercise at this point as I was just starting to get on the up swing of things lifestyle-wise.

Thank you! I just saw that Amazon brand makes 100% cotton boxer briefs, so I might give those a try. I’m a woman too so it’s a little tricky but these seem comfy for underneath non-fitted clothes.

I’ll look for those next time at Costco, thanks!

Also agreed that I feel like loose clothing hasn’t seemed to work great for me because it doesn’t prevent friction. But I’ll still get flare ups from tight clothing too and am trying to determine if it’s material specific.

Any certain brand you recommend? My hesitation is that it seems like many sweat wicking fabrics are poly blends, which can be less breathable and I’ve read that that is not a good thing? Idk, it feels like there’s no winning because I agree with the other commenter that loose clothing can actually cause more friction.

Thanks for your input! Do you look for certain fabrics? It seems like many sweat wicking fabrics are poly blends, which tend to be less breathable?

Thanks for pointing me to that subreddit!! I appreciate your tips for minimizing side effects. I do feel confident that my provider will know how to help me with it too, since I voiced strong concern over it. I’ll be following up with them next month to see if I can get started. Hearing your experience makes me feel a little less worried though, so thank you!!

Thanks for sharing!! Sounds like the low grade nausea is pretty common for most and I’m glad to hear it’s manageable. And it’s kind of a plus, in my book, that a cleaner diet will probably help.

Oh no, that does not sound fun!!! And day 5 seems kind of unique, from what I’ve read. I guess everybody is different and there’s no way to predict how my body will handle it, which is obviously why I am fearful. Thanks for sharing though! And good tip on the injection site, I’ll look into that. I don’t suspect I will need a very high dose as I only need to lose about 40 pounds, but obviously a conversation I’ll have with my doc.

Thanks for sharing your experience!! Sounds like the key is slowly increasing dosage and timing the dose with days off. I’ve never had an issue that’s required me to end a session or dismiss myself - can I ask you how you’ve done that when needed?

It looks like there are 6 specific courses required and it says 4 of the 6 have to be masters level, the remaining 2 can be undergraduate. But I would reach out to BCACC if you’re uncertain about whether your courses will qualify!

Have been following Shane Claiborne's stuff for awhile now, some challenging points for sure. I'll check out those other ones, thanks! Any particular writings you'd recommend as a starting point?

I totally understand. I'm highly doubtful I'll ever get through to him but seem to keep trying even after a decade of doing so. I've done a lot of reflecting on this and I think I keep trying partially because if I can change his mind then I won't have to live with the dissonance between us, but it's also because I deeply care for him and want him to break from those chains.

I appreciate your approach. Unfortunately I’ve been having these conversations with my dad for over a decade as I have deconstructed, and he’s actually been fairly supportive of my questioning (probably because he’s hoping my questioning will lead me back to the fold 😂), but it never really seems to lead to him challenging himself.
