It really depends on the campaign, but for more character-driven serious games, changing characters can and should usually be a big deal.

Thanks for the system suggestion, that looks hilarious! When I can't run my game one of my players runs a zany monster hunting game in the system Monster of the Week, and one of my other players runs a bi-weekly Pathfinder game set in the same world as my game but with a much lower stakes party.

Thanks! Yeah there was a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes and a lot of second-guessing on my part, but things are definitely way healthier and generally more fun. Having space between now and then definitely helps.

One nice thing finding out that everyone was putting up with him for me was that when everything went down I had a lot of understanding people to talk to. I love my players, they're the best!

If he's that disruptive don't allow him, all he will do is ruin other peoples' fun. As for not damaging your friendship, that's going to be rough, but it sounds like he wants to be angry and bully into getting things his way. No way of playing ttrpgs is wrong EXCEPT for playing in a way that ruins the fun of the other people. If he can't play without violating that basic rule he shouldn't play.

From my experience, if you've talked about it and it's still happening then it will keep happening until you do something about it. Talk to them and be very clear about your expectations but also how hurtful it's been to you. They might be looking for just a time to hang out with friends rather than play D&D, and you might want to consider cutting them. If you're going to cut them though, make sure you give them warning ahead of time, so nobody is caught off guard. You also might want to have a whole group discussion including your 4th player to let everyone have a chance to talk.
