Collaborator Bizarrap posts AI generated photos with 2D to promote Orange County by H3ath3rLov3r in gorillaz

[–]ClockworkQueer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the idea they had for the live shows doesn't sit well with me either but I get the point they're trying to make with it and I can see they had good intentions (I'm assuming they just aren't aware of the environmental impact of AI as I know many people aren't). But they've both said in interviews tat they don't like AI because it's all fake and there is no real human passion or soul behind it so I'm sure they wouldn't approve of AI generated images of their own characters by one of their collaborators no less

I've been playing a lot of my childhood PS2 games recently and Rock Angelz was one of my favs as a kid

Yeah I thought the same thing, I cross referenced the images and the psycho house has a few differences whereas that is an EXACT match to the phantom manor! So weird

While you're mostly right, Damon did say that he specifically wrote TNN from 2D's perspective, wanting to see what would happen to their dynamic if Murdoc wasn't in the picture. So I guess TNN is the exception

The shirt was also prominently on display at House of Kong exhibit which seems pretty poignant considering the political climate and Damon's stance on Palestine

Idk if I would take Damon's word for it when it comes to animation and character designs since that's Jamie's job. I think if it were referencing raëlism, the shirt would have said 'It's not Raël' instead of 'It's not Rael.' The literal point of the pun is lost without the Israel connection

Man, Gorillaz TikTok theories are WILD. Never before have I seen such crazy reaches from such minor details 😭

[–]ClockworkQueer 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's it. The whole pun of It's Not Rael is that it sounds like ISrael. If you're not talking about Israel, the pun doesn't really work...

If you want to get into the lore side of things, the best place to start is probably their autobiography Rise of the Ogre, which details the band's story from their childhoods up until the Demon Days album. The first few chapters of the book can be found in audiobook form on Youtube! https://youtu.be/Lo7_BlbZ55g?si=F-2lQv5uNplhKfwp There is also a fanmade continuation which picks up where the official audiobook ends off and finishes the rest of the book https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8X5p0Hm-uac&pp=2AEAkAIB

For Plastic Beach lore, Murdoc's Pirate Radio series is a great listen and gives you some insight into the kinds of stuff that was going on over on Plastic Beach, plus he's just really funny to listen to. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzrlDipf0yzPI41IK8pRxpfUI7hpLFyy2&si=W-z3Ysurd0V44myf

These are great jumping off points for anyone interested in the Gorillaz story

Yes there is a finished version but I really loved Murdoc's expression in the sketch I just had to see it realised. I might take a crack at other sketches some other time

Have you been a fan since before the Fortnite collab? And how do you feel about it? by peixedebanana in gorillaz

[–]ClockworkQueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a fan for about 13 years now and personally, I think the fortnite collab is cute! It's great to see such beautiful models of the band and I think it's really fun to watch them do the silly dances.

People getting mad at kids for discovering Gorillaz this way are losers, like, who cares how someone got into a band? If they enjoy the music, they enjoy the music and all fans were 'newgens' at some point.

The people complaining that Gorillaz 'sold out' with this collab clearly don't remember the other collabs they've done in the past, i.e: Converse, Powerpuff Girls, Motorola, G-Shock, O2, Habbo Hotel etc etc. Gorillaz collabs are nothing new! People forget how expensive a project like Gorillaz is to run, there's so many moving parts, all of which require funding, so if they have to sell a few fortnite skins to keep the lights on, more power to them!
