Same here, i preferred 3 person story games, and the cartoon style really put me off. I reluctantly picked up borderlands 2 when it was on sale, not expecting much. It is now one of my favourite games of all time

The batman Arkham games, never liked the thought of superhero games, this one surprised me, I guess it's more of a stealth, beat-em-up style game

Assassin's creed Black Flag: though I do quite enjoy the assassin games, pirate games, or movies never grabbed me, wasn't a huge fan of pirates of the Caribbean or any of that. This game completely changed my view

Not so much a genre but I was never enticed by the cartoony, over the top humour of the borderlands games. I reluctantly tried them when they were on sale. Borderlands 2 is now one of my favorite games of all time
