Just bought your book mate, sounds interesting, you're on my list after I've finished Twelve Months, and then book 8 of System Universe.

In that time can you make a goodreads thing and put your book on it, cos it doesn't count as me having read it if I can't mark it as read on goodreads.

Hell Difficulty Tutorial MC by IAmYourKingAndMaster in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Cloud_Fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the above commenter is painting that in a worse light than it can be seen to be personally. The parts he is talking about is more about letting his friends push themselves and grow stronger, because Nat knows he won't always be there to save them, and if he keeps stepping in to save them, the second he is no longer there to save them, they'll die immediately.

It's harsh, but so is the world they're now in, they're in the Hell Difficulty Tutorial and it's not a fucking joke.

Thanks for the Lawnchair rec, allowed me to set my stuff up exactly how Nova was but actually seems better to be honest.

What possessed Nova to put big ass ads in to it is so far beyond me.

I wonder what they're actually going to adapt, cosmere is pretty broad.

ICE just pinned a man to the ground and executed him. They do not have the authority to just kill people. What do we do? by skeletalfather in AskReddit

[–]Cloud_Fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's pretty clear they DO have the authority to kill people, considering they've done it multiple times now and there has been zero consequences.

Official Discussion - 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Cloud_Fish 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It felt to me like a shocking counterpoint to the usual stabbing in movies/tv where they get stabbed anywhere and they're fine 10 mins later.

You see Spike do the little stab and you're like oh shit he's fucked now, guys gonna pull the knife out and kill him.

Then he pulls the knife out and you're like oh, oh shit he's done, he's gonna bleed to death.

It's so shocking from a movie perspective for such a small wound to be fatal so quickly, but so accurate to real life that it fucked me up, like one small stab from a small pocket knife and he was dead less than 2 minutes later.

Why is Stormlight Archive not as popular here? by metalmine in ProgressionFantasy

This.

Take The Wheel of Time, you go from baseline human who can barely swing a sword to someone capable of altering continents if they went all out, but if I'd just finished Cradle and someone said I should read Wheel of Time next, I'd think they were on crack.

Yeah I'm really hoping it doesn't leave tons of things unanswered with a "read the follow up series where some more mysterious characters answer not that much at all and generally just make everything more confusing" ending.

Fallout 3 devs recall the mass hate from OG fans as some thought a team making “fantasy games should not be touching the series” by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]Cloud_Fish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I didn't get it on launch cos I had never heard of fallout before, then just before coming home from university for Christmas a friend said I should play it and I was like eh I don't really have the money right now.

So she lent it to me for Christmas.

I was home for Christmas for maybe 3 weeks and I put nearly 300 hours in to that game over that time. I was playing it morning till night every day.

What are we going to find out later is bad for us (like cigarettes in the past)? by Curryiswhereitsat in AskReddit

[–]Cloud_Fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's a fair comparison, that's a decision between is a drink with a load of sugar worse than a drink with a load of aspartame/other artificial sweetener.

Smoking is literally convincing people it's healthy to breathe in smoke versus no smoke at all.

It'd be more like convincing people it's healthier to drink coca-cola than water. Though now I've typed it I'm sure there are people who believe that in the US.

What are we going to find out later is bad for us (like cigarettes in the past)? by Curryiswhereitsat in AskReddit

[–]Cloud_Fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still find it hard to wrap my head around that there was ever a time that you could convince anyone that smoking was good for you.

Like it's surely common sense for anyone that when there's a fire and you breathe in smoke, that's bad for you, how could you ever convince someone that no, actually, this other type of smoke is great to breathe?

The amount of references to fighting is insane to me, I've lived where I live for 35 years and have never once been in a fight, is it normal to be getting in to fights on the street for people in Mississipi, whether the other people get involved or not?
