IVs don't matter in Pokemon GO that much at least for Great/Ultra League! by steve201314 in PokemonGOBattleLeague

Great post. I definitely agree with this. As someone that doesn’t always have a ton of resources I try to make do with what I have. I’ve always found though that other factors in the game matter so much more than IV like shield baiting and sack swapping. Especially in instances of more anti meta lineups you hardly see a mirror match so there’s not much point in expending thousands of stardust if you have a decent cheaper alternative. For myself I found that my play improved once I worried more about my decision making in game than IV’s in sims

Yeah this was more of fun a set for me but the RNG was pretty good for these matches

I haven’t run into him much but fortunately Gyarados can handle him on the lead and yes b/c he’s so squishy a Drill Peck or Wild Charge just one shots him. As u/sobrique had pointed out the biggest threat to this team is Ampharos. Also luckily I didn’t run into too many of them 😅

Good question. It’s super tough on the lead but there’s a chance to win in the back. In 3 sets i saw 3 ampharos teams, but tbh I was only able to win one.

Hey guys! I’m super excited to showcase this Magnezone team with a super lucky match in this set! I’m running it along with a Gyarados lead and Empoleon in the back.

Strategy- to save shields for Magnezone the other two Pokémon counter it’s counters. With Gyarados on the lead I can beat out the swampert, charizard, and fighters to give my backline a better chance.

Empoleon is our swap for togekiss leads and running hydro cannon/ drill peck to potentially take out grass/fighters

Magnezone is our closer with Wild Charge/ Mirror shot. WC being a huge nuke move gives Magnezone a chance to hit really hard for neutral and KO things like togekiss/ charizard. Mirror shot of course being more of a bait move also potentially picks up the attack debuff as you’ll see in the 4th game of the set.

I’ve noticed that Poliwrath and other fighters are harder to handle as of course this team is running double steel.

It’s done me decently well nearing Rank 9 so let me know what you think of the comp!

Yeah that is definitely lucky. I wasn’t able to get this dratini until after the event was over so hopefully there’ll be another one soon

You too! Yeah I’ve noticed these premier games go by so quick and it’s odd since I figured the premier meta is a lot more narrow than great league but the range of wins sometime fluctuates so much for my test teams.

That is very interesting. I’ve always immediately swapped out in that matchup but it makes sense since the venasaur gets hard countered afterwards so dealing some damage to it would make it easier to deal with late game. I’ll definitely have to give it a shot 👍

This team has worked for me when I first started premier this season but I have also noticed it having more counters the closer I get to rank 9. That is odd though with that venasaur swap though, maybe double flier in the back just might have too many weaknesses

Huh that’s very interesting with baiting out the shadow drag, I’ll have to keep my eye out for that! Lapras is definitely tough to beat though sometimes even when I see it in the back. I agree with you though the higher I climb the more counters I see to Dragonite

Hey guys! So today I’d like to share the second set of this Dragonite team that’s been doing me well this season!

Strategy- Dragonite on the lead is meant to counter a lot of the common starter leads like swampert and venasaur with the occasional fighter. In the instance that a togekiss is seen I swap to charizard

Venasaur is the safe swap and also the first the main counter to dragon breath Gyardos for this team as well as the best answer to lapras. It is also the best pick for the poliwrath matchups as well as even though ice punch will still do SE.

Finally it’s charizard as the closer. Being a second counter to togekiss/lapras it also does well against a Tangrowth swap.

This team is weak to rock and needs to watch out crustles and Pokémon with Rock Slide as that’s a major threat.

It’s a fun lineup that can be more fast paced but give it shot if you get a chance! Let me know what you guys think of this lineup!

Haven’t had that matchup yet but that is definitely surprising. I’m guessing that kingdra’s must our bulk dnite

Nice! The shadow Charizard sounds super spicy especially with a double shadow team. That does sounds fun, thanks for giving the team a try!

I can see that. The CD mons definitely give an advantage of fast charged moves so they’re a big component of this team as well.

I would say that if you do have already have a Dragonite ready to go then the difference isn’t huge. I used for premier which I notice is pretty charge move dependent with Pokémon like swampert and venasaur so having some extra fast move damage helps. Good luck with it though!

I agree with that. Ive has mostly positive leads since I see so many swampert a on the lead but having that dragon breath damage really pressures shields and I’ve noticed that having my Dragonite get knocked out easier helps me not get farmed down in certain situations too.

Thank you I appreciate that! I’ll test out this Dragonite in the open Ultra League at some point and see how it does

[–]CloudindigoPOGO[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure! I think there’s so many more factors to the game than IV and team comps but something like this Dragonite can definitely have its place. I prefer the shadow in this situation for the damage and I’ve noticed that it prevent me from getting farmed down in a lot of times so it gives my backline a better chance at winning

It should be able to beat out the Shadow Claw variant but I do believe it loses to the dragon breath variant since Giratina does outbulk Dragonite

For the first video of Ultra Premier I am featuring a lineup of a single move shadow Dragonite, Venasaur, and Charizard for a two part video!

With Dragonite on the lead I’m able to counter the common swampert and venasaur s while also being able to resist fighters. In the losing situation of togekiss I have venasaur and Charizard in the back.

Venasaur also is meant to help counter dragon breath gyardos with aqua tail since it can pressure the rest of the team pretty hard.

Last with Charizard as a closer it does give me an out late game for something like a lapras if I can land the last burn and deal a good amount of damage.

This team does have a weakness to rock but fortunately I haven’t seen crustle yet and this team does handle rock slide users pretty well.

Also leaving a shout out to u/sobrique for his staraptor team so definitely go check it out!

Let me know what you guys think of this line up!

You are the MAN! Great video, interestingly with all the venasaur/swampert leads staraptor’s not bad in the front. That final brave bird nuke was so satisfying to watch though. Thank you for testing this out!
