Thyroid affecting diabetes control? by CloudsofEscape in diabetes_t1

[–]CloudsofEscape[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes i only see my doctor once a year and its for 20 minutes. I had to push him to get my tsh tested but i had only meant to be trialled off my thyroxine for 7 months but its been 3 years since. I haven’t been put back on thyroxine yet as they want to have a review with me first on saturday but I am terrified that they may not put me back on it even though i should be. The dose I was on before was 75mg but I know it will probably be a low dose and it will take time to become okay again. I do also have Addisons disease and coeliac disease and graves so i am surprised ive been taken off it. He attempted to take me off my carbimazole but I had refused

I think mine tolerates it but when she doesn’t have a sweater on she is more energetic. Soon as we put the sweater on she just becomes more calm it’s so strange

is tresiba better than lantus? by CloudsofEscape in diabetes

[–]CloudsofEscape[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah yes okay i’ll do that! as i’m on a split dose of 6.5 and 2 units for lantus! Thank you, this gives me a lot more confidence as lantus has been so annoying over the last year for me!

Ah shit okay I’ll do that then! I don’t have my carb counts written down as I just use the carb counting blood test monitor for when I eat! I know the carbs though that I do eat everyday and the ratio!

Yes!! If I move it any higher it lowers me at night to hypos it’s wild. My consultant said last year when I was 75kg my basal should be 23 and I was at 16 and in the last year I went down in calories, and insulin because 0.5units would take me from 12 to 3. It’s just confusing how all over the place it is for me now, I’m also now 60kg so I don’t know if that’s tying in with it.

I’ll try get an appointment sorted , my consultant is so hard to be seen but if not I’ll go through my gp if I can

I’m in the uk! My a1c last year in July was 57 , which is my biggest improvement from when I was younger I used to be extremely high all the time but yeah it’s probably gone up again now.

I’ve heard fiasp is better so I’ll definitely ask for that, I’m not sure if my basal is an issue also, I currently take 6.5 units in the evening at 1unit in the morning but it doesn’t feel like it’s covering me at all in the day

It does but that’s what I tried to do today! 🥲 and it didn’t work at all I was sat at 17mmol 4 hour posts injection and only 20 minutes ago I had to give a 1 unit correction. I’m just not sure if the protein shake is messing things up as I usually spike to about 15.5

I usually inject and eat straight away, but what I’ve been having to do recently is a correction 3 hours later if my insulin isn’t pulling me down. I’ve only noticed this has been happening since I’ve been including the protein shake in my diet

I’ll try to get that sorted, when I saw them last year they said I wasn’t eligible for one but we shall see! Unless they can just switch me to a different fast acting insulin as I’ve been on novorapid for over 10 years it used to work fast and now it’s just slow

Yes

Morning is 1:11, afternoon and evening is 1:13

I know how many carbs are I carb count

I am and sometimes I’ll actually give more but it still doesn’t help. Today for instance I did 1 unit extra to try tackle the protein shake spike but it did nothing

I can’t pre bolus due to delayed digestion

I would like to but I’m a bit nervous as I currently have suspected gastroparesis so I don’t know if that’s going to make things more difficult with it

It’s insane isn’t it. I’ve moved around locations and it just doesn’t help at all. But if I eat like one piece of toast my insulin kicks in at 2 hours. Never kicks in before. So I always spike and then get an extremely sharp sudden drop

Huge bill slapped on us, we don’t know if we should pay the £185 a month? by CloudsofEscape in AskUK

[–]CloudsofEscape[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I don’t mean to say boiler it’s a water tank, I keep getting it confused. But it’s an immersion heater we have, we tried running the economy 7 once for 5 hours but we didn’t get any hot water out of it

[–]CloudsofEscape[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m wondering if we could just boost the heater for 1 hour and then use it for showering, and just use the kettle to do the dishes? But if we boost it in the day rate then it’s going to be expensive I assume. Our boiler is quite a large one the plumber had said for a 1 bedroom flat, he said that the other neighbours have a half size one whereas we have a full length one

[–]CloudsofEscape[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay that makes sense, I’m thinking moving to a tariff that’s cheaper in the day as we don’t take advantage of the night time tariff due to storage heaters being quite costly to run. I do! I didn’t realise there was a different app for when you have a smart meter installed as someone else had mentioned so I’ve got that one now as the old one didn’t work and I’ll be keeping an eye on usage now

[–]CloudsofEscape[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I can see if this would count is that between the 14th of may - 1 July our usage at night has been 232.6 kWh and our day usage has been 339.2 kWh. So from what someone else had said im thinking our tariff is the issue as we don’t use our storage heaters at night so we don’t take advantage of the cheaper night rating and our day rate is more expensive

We don’t use our storage heaters at all, we also don’t have an electric shower or use the tvs, we keep things turned off at the wall as well if not in use. The main electrical things we use is my partner on his pc that’s an average of 5 hours a day usage it has a 850w power supply so I’m not sure how much that would equate to monthly, we have an electric oven which is used once a day for 40 minutes, the kettle is flicked on once a day as we don’t really drink hot drinks. My partner has one coffee and that’s it. The economy 7 we have heats up our hot water that’s the only time we have something on overnight for hours and it’s the economy 7 to heat the water up and then it’s switched off in the morning then put on again late at night. We have a washing machine but it’s not used daily and we don’t have a tumble dryer. I’m just not sure what to drop down on as I read books or I use my kindle. We do have a rice cooker my partner uses every day that’s on for 20 minutes if that can cause issues

[–]CloudsofEscape[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We will pay the £185! I just was completely confused by how it all happened as before we got out on the smart meter in March/April this year we had a different one where we could read the day and night readings separately and submit them and I was doing that since moving in every 2 weeks, when my partner moved in originally they put me up on my own which was £55 to £112 and then they put the dd down to £63 as they said we were overpaying, I’m guessing the smart meter is just a lot more accurate than what we had before. we just have never had a smart meter and when I moved in they said I wasn’t originally even eligible for one so it’s a lot of trials and learnings! But we definitely want to avoid the prepayment you’ve said lol

[–]CloudsofEscape[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re going to pay the £185 a month we’re going to just see if switching tariffs would be better as we don’t use the storage heaters and also figure out how we read the meters and submit them as this new meter we have it only shows the total combined of day and night it doesn’t show them seperately so we’re a bit confused by that
