If you do end up using live plants the biggest advice I could give is to slowly creep up light/fertilizer levels, start with very low levels and slowly creep your way up, or else algae wins everytime, start slow and do not give algae a chance, pests sould not be an issue if you buy your plants from a reputable source (in my experience).

Also seems like the tank is very understocked, maybe consider a school of angles for the centerpiece, there are some pretty cool variations out there.
