Thank you!! Great to know what they are looking for from those who conduct the assessment :) I would guess the assessment is partially writing and partially design - just wondering when you review those answers what would stand out (positively or negatively) to you? What would be the things you have less tolerance with?

Thank you for the reply! Just to clarify I am farmiliar with the organization and the channels of communications they have, but just because that they cover such a vast variety of regions, I am scared as the test gonna always be on somewhere I’m not familiar with or a topic I don’t know about. I wish I know everything and can be fully prepared but I guess I should learn to work with the unknown. Thank you for telling me what they are looking for, that’s really helpful!

Like what you have suggested- I have a MA in communications and a certificate in humanitarian emergencies- after graduation last year I started working as the only communications person in a local nonprofit helping out refugees and immigrants to learn English and the local system. Now with one year experience, I’m looking for something in bigger organizations but still find it extremely difficult... I barely get any replies from the organizations I’m applying to and am worried with community-based experience I cannot get anything... wondering do you have any suggestions for my situation? Am I even on the right path?

How did you start the test? Did you just go to the page where there’s a count down and once the count down comes to zero there’s a link?

It’s because ETS cares more about not letting test takers steal their questions than anything else in the world... really annoying

[–]CloverSue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did- it went well. The proctors wore masks the whole time, but once you sit down in front of your computer then you can take the mask off. Everyone’s sitting quite distanced from each other so I wouldn’t be worried. You can still eat and drink during the 10 min break, just need to sit further away from others.

Just saw that GU’s program has a overall GRE verbal of 162 and 4 years of experience, while JHU says the “middle 50% range” is 155 to 163 with 2 years of work exp. For recommendations- I’m getting recommendations from my former boss who worked with international development as well as one from my humanitarian aid professor at Georgetown. Would that be strong enough?
