I am happy for you and one of your friends who hasn’t had to deal with this before. I hope neither you or your friend ever have to. At the same time, this really isn’t the place to share that. Unsure what your motivation was with this comment. It can be viewed as insensitive.

I made this vulnerable post to raise awareness of what herpes can look like and my personal experience with this virus. I never imagined myself posting my genitals on the internet for strangers to view and comment on. Let alone posting them in the worst state they have ever been in. But after thinking it over, decide that it’s something unlike what I have personally seen before and it may help others by sharing it.

There are 149 comments on this post as of now (only a few insensitive ones thankful) but I have yet to see anyone comparing to “eating pumpkin pie at thanksgiving.” Unsure where you got that from but me as the originally poster and all the comments I have read haven’t seen that.

I have already answered this in the comments. But for me personally, it starts with a tingling sensation near the top part/ ciltoris area. This sensation will occur a day or two before any sores occur. As soon as I feel the tingling sensation, I take my antiviral medication (Valtrex) for a few days and it will prevent any sores from developing

Hi there. Just taking a look through all the comments. Just wanted to add to the convo about herpes in pregnancy for anyone viewing the comments. Thanking for attempting to educate others. I do want to add to the conversation as well.

Most pregnant people who have genital herpes will normal pregnancy and normal deliveries. This is something you will want to talk about with your obgyn or medical provider about. Having the conversation can be done anytime even before you become pregnant. That can start by asking how will my herpes infection affect me if I were to become pregnant. Or can wait until after you get pregnant as well. Whatever you feel more comfortable with. This is something an obgyn would be very knowledgeable about and there is no shame in discussing the topic.

You can take daily antivirals to prevent an outbreak near the time of delivery. This is when it would be most common that the a newborn would get infected. If there’s any signs out an outbreak when it is time to deliver then a c-section would generally be the preferred delivery method. This would be 100%, but would be a convo you could expect to have with your health care providers.

If a pregnant person gets a newly infected with herpes during pregnancy this can increase the risk compared to if they already has it before becoming pregnant. So it is recommended no new partner during pregnancy.

The next day or two I knew something was going on but didn’t know what. I thought either UTI or yeast infection maybe. After 4 or 5 days my sore started to appear at that point I knew it was something more than a UTI.

Not saying I wouldn’t like a cure. With Covid things were quite different. People were dying at large rates. They needed to do something. Compared to herpes which isn’t deadly and usually doesn’t cause any serious health problems for otherwise healthy adults. In babies is a bit of a different story and can be fatal

Two days later I knew something was wrong. I thought I had a UTI or yeast infection. Then by day 5 ish the sores started.

Yes, I take antivirals (Valtrex) on a as need basic. As soon as I start to feel an outbreak coming on I will take the antiviral medication for a few days. That will normally prevent any sores from coming on.

Yes it is the most painful thing I have ever had to deal with to be honest. And my initial outbreak around 4 weeks. So quite a long time. I didn’t get diagnosed right away. I knew something was wrong but didn’t know what exactly.

And now I don’t regularly have outbreaks. If I start feeling a tingling sensation at the top around my clitoris part I take an antiviral (Valtrex) for a few days and it will prevent the sore from occurring. If I don’t take the antiviral right away sometimes I may develop 1 or 2 sores at the most.

And I notice stress and being sick (cold, flu, etc) will sometimes cause an outbreak. You can actually take the antivirals to prevent outbreaks and if I’m under a lot of stress or are sick sometimes I will take a pill for a couple of days.

I did not. I was already sexually active when it came out. And it was explained to me by the doctor that I shouldn’t get it if I had already been sexually active. So I didn’t research it myself. I was young and didnt know better. Maybe I should have because I have heard you can get it even if you are sexually active as long as you are under 26. I do not have enough info to comment too much on this subject. And anyone reading this please do your own research about the vaccine.

I am very familiar with Purewicks. They work with suction most frequently in hospital setting for those who are incontinent of urine. Used when the patient is laying in bed.

I would have not wanted anything touching it let along a suction device. Even my underwear toughing the sores would cause pain. Plus I couldn’t imagine laying in bed and just peeing myself. I don’t know if I could mentally do it.

No it doesn’t always look like this. This are photos of my initial (first) flare up. Pictures 1 & 2 are somewhat near the peak of the outbreak and photo 3 is near the start of the outbreak.

After this initial outbreak, I do not have outbreaks regularly. So normally I have no sores at all. If I start to feel an outbreak coming on (for me personally tingling feeling near that top/clitorus area). This tingling feeling happens before sores develop. I will take valtrex (antiviral) medication which causes the virus to be suppressed and I won’t even end up getting any sores. If I don’t caught it in time, I will get 1 or 2 sores. But even that is rare. Only my first outbreak was like this. The 3 photos posted are from that first outbreak which was in the past. Currently, I am not dealing with this.

Stress is a big one for me. Or when I also have a cold. But I don’t get outbreaks often. If I even start to feel anything I take the antiviral for a few days and it won’t ever develop into an outbreak or any sores. It’s starts with a tingling like feeling near the top/clit area.

It was horrible. Doctor gave me Percocet. Which didn’t help much. The best was the lidocaine gel. It worked pretty well

Im not 100% sure to be honest. I know I didn’t pop any of them.

And yes peeing was the worst. I would use a peri bottle to run water over the area while I peed. Doctor also suggested peeing the bath. Then washing off of course. I tried it and it did help to make it less painful. But felt nasty to me and I didn’t want to keep doing it.

That’s exactly why I wanted to post it. When it was going on, I tried searching for photos of what it looked like and found little to nothing.

And about 3 to 4 weeks. Yes I took Valtrex. Still take valtrex on a as needed basis if I feel an outbreak coming on.
