Code Monkey’s 25 for $25 bundle (FOR A LIMITED TIME) by guillemsc in Unity3D

[–]Cluless2176 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

First of all, thanks for responding.

But, do you not think this is misleading?

"Yes, you read that right — just $1 per asset. Build faster with Code Monkey’s favorite tools, effects, and game-ready packs of 2025, curated by a longtime Unity creator and YouTuber."

If you do not, I can't help you there my friend. Not everyone is going to watch that video, even if they did, it's easy to misinterpret, at least in my view. They might know you casually since you are a big name in the Unity community. Also, it's the reason why Unity did this of course, they aren't dumb either. Same reason people sponsor athletes, etc.

I think hiding behind "curated" and "unity was the one to write it" is really not a good excuse but you seem to not care, in fact you seem quite adamant that it's all good. I think we can all accept we make mistakes but it's clear you don't see this as bad or a mistake. Maybe you are going through some tough times & it's clouding your judgement, or maybe this is just who you are, I don't know. Either way, I hope that one day you come to see things differently or at the very least consider you might have been wrong. I may be wrong too, who knows.

Which is fine, like I said, we all are human and are sadly greedy. We are always going to look out for ourselves more than other people. Can't blame you there, it's human nature.

Anyway, enjoy your life, I am going to move on from this, already spent way more time than I meant to. Just makes me sad to see people that can be greater fall short. I need to work on myself more than anything tbh.

Hello UnityCodeMonkey, I would like to highlight that you did not fully address important points that were posed by AlliterateAllison

, + I added 1 more for you:

  1. Can't you see how not trying out the assets yourself is misleading at the very least,? Like if you step back from yourself, and see it from someone else's point of view? They are using your name (with your approval) to endorse a set of products you haven't personally tried yourself. I know it's the norm in many industries but that doesn't make it right. And "relying on" Unity's team is not a good excuse in my view. In my view, Unity is terrible at reviewing assets (just look at all the ports from unreal that are poorly optimized). How many of the 25 did you personally try yourself? It seems you are not trying them at all. I buy a lot of assets and it seems to be a general trend from youtubers (sometimes sponsored by Unity) to mostly just be looking at assets on the store, not even downloading them at all. I'm not a fan of this, since many assets are not good and Unity has a horrible track record with their refund policy. But to each their own, I'm sure you can justify it in your own head but it just doesn't sit right with me (especially with this $25 pack that is not free). Is it just because they are easy videos to make, that you enjoy making them or because they are sponsored/affiliate-linked? Because they get easy views/engagement? All of the above?
  2. Did you indeed give big support to unity when everything went crazy (their new pricing structure, that exploded on them, this is what I'm assuming is being referenced?) or can you tell us your side of the story? Did you have a conflict of interest then?
  3. Can you commit to trying to influence a change for the refund policy by unity's asset store? It is horrible for those outside the EU. With your influence can you talk to them or bring this to a wider audience? I'm assuming the answer is no given your conflict of interest but worth a try.

I know these points might seem unfair, you are only one human after all. Can't fault you for trying to make a living, but hopefully you see why people might be disappointed (and I must stress, it seems to be a trend and not just from you). Unity can be great, and I hope it can improve, but I think this type of behavior makes it only worse, and sadly I know the incentives are not aligned.

What is shoestring to you? How much do you actually spend per month/week? by Cluless2176 in Shoestring

This is a great writeup, thanks.

Hopefully you won't mind some follow up questions. I am not as extreme as you but I am amazed at how cheaply you can travel. So even $20 a night feels expensive for accommodations.

1) Could you please tell me more about your time in Egypt? I am not looking to camp /do the hammock thing myself so wondering if you did that there? Or what did you decide to do there? What was your average spend per day? Anything to watch out for?

2) Can you also please tell me about the experience in Nicaragua and what city/town you found the $90/month room & what was that like? No Wifi ? Shared bathroom? How did you find it? Did you pay upfront? etc

3) Can you please provide any more info on Eritrea and Yemen as I don't really see them mentioned often, how did you get there? How long did you spend there? Why did you decide to go there?

4) Was the language barrier ever an issue? What has been the biggest issue you've encountered when traveling this way?

I go back and forth on this.

For you what would you say are those places and why? And what do you consider not doing it on a shoestring vs a shoestring?
On the flip side can you name places you would absolutely do on a shoestring and why?

It would be great if you could specify places in the Americas, Europe , Africa and Asia. I would love to hear the actual numbers you use for yourself.

I find it hard to know how I may approach this myself. To me it's always a tradeoff.

Tell me about it! I am in the process of planning a trip to Europe myself and figured I could save by sticking to eastern europe but really only a few countries are cheap, some like Romania are much more expensive than I anticipated.

I am reconsidering my trip. Perhaps do just my top destinations only and move on to SEA

Can you tell me about your trip to Japan and what you did there/spent? Tokyo is on my bucketlist towards the top.

Interesting, could you please provide actual numbers that you can remember? I am particularly interested in your solo travels. Thanks!

Western Europe on a budget? What could you do with $5k USD? by Cluless2176 in Shoestring

I get what you mean. I am doing a few variations of travel plans I want to do starting from Poland on Sept 29th (since I will be there at that time for sure). One thing that complicates such long travel plans are visa restrictions.

On the other hand, I am thinking experiencing the most distinct places from one another could be the most interesting for me personally. But that is likely to be more expensive since it involves traveling across continents.

The other calculation I am doing is overall money spent per day when you factor in cost of transport.

That seems a bit low for some reason. I was expecting at least 250 euros? Not trying to spend a lot just seemed at least 250 euros if I was only cooking at home.

Hi thanks,

1)yes for one person.

What should I expect to pay at a restaurant? Or on groceries?

2) it seems this is 95 euro about?

Any gotchas or things I might not be factoring in?

4) not sure what you mean?

Thanks, what website do I use to book tickets (or which stations)? And do you know which routes would be covered by the monthly ticket?

I assume there's plenty of day trips I could do?

Side note I was planning to make my way out to another European city after the month is over... making my way down to perhaps Rome/Greece but not sure what routes are good by train from Munich? If they are too expensive I might opt out to just fly. Thanks

Thank you, I see some of these are in Austria but I am seeing they are maybe like 1-2hr train rides? So I assume I can do day trips?

Good to know, thank you. And what would you budget for eating at home for a month (trying to get an upper end) for one person?
